Draft Scouting Report
Pro Comparison: T.J. McConnell
Summary
Lipsey had a decorated college career, starting every game over the course of his four years at Iowa State. He was the tip of the spear for a Cyclone defense that ranked among college basketball’s top ten defenses in three of his four years, and was among the top 15 in all four. While he’s not a prototypical NBA guard, he may prove to be the overachiever who can fight his way into a spot in the league.
About
- 3x All-Big 12 Team and Big 12 All-Defensive Team
- Iowa State record holder for career steals and steals per game
- Led the Big 12 in steals (2.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (3.3 to 1) in 2025-26.
Strengths
- Defensive pest who’s fully engaged, physical, and a constant threat to pressure the ball at the point of attack.
- Creates tempo with the ball, has very reliable ball-security, and is a sneaky good lay-up maker (64% at the rim).
- Wealth of competitive intangibles with strong motor and high-energy.
Weaknesses
- Lacks ideal NBA size and has short arms with a 6-2 wingspan.
- Not a reliable outside shooter. Made just 32% of his catch-and-shoot 3-pointers.
- Unclear how he becomes a scoring threat in an NBA game.

Tamin Lipsey: Returns to Iowa State
Lipsey has been added to Iowa State's roster for the 2026-27 season after receiving a temporary restraining order in the Daley v. NCAA case, the program announced Monday.
The veteran guard averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game during the 2025-26 regular season and went undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft before appearing with the Pacers in Summer League. Lipsey's return gives the Cyclones an experienced option at point guard, though his eligibility situation remains subject to further legal developments surrounding the NCAA's new eligibility rules.

Pacers' Tamin Lipsey: Not playing Saturday
Lipsey (rest) will not play in Saturday's Summer League game against the Pelicans, Tony East of Forbes.com reports.
Lipsey appeared in two Summer League games for the Pacers and averaged 3.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists over 22.8 minutes per contest. He signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Pacers in late June, but it's unclear whether he's done enough to earn an invite to Indiana's training camp.

Pacers' Tamin Lipsey: Signs with Indiana
Lipsey agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Pacers on Wednesday, Darren Wolfson of KSTP-TV reports.
Lipsey will presumably get an opportunity to make a good impression with the Pacers in Summer League after a solid season at Iowa State. The 22-year-old guard averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals in 34 outings with the Cyclones in 2025-26.
