  • Hornets' Collin Sexton: Starting against Dallas

Sexton is in the starting lineup for Saturday's preseason game against the Mavericks, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Sexton is one of the players competing for a role in the Hornets' backcourt, but he should be a lock to make the rotation even if he comes off the bench. Sexton had 15 points and two assists in a preseason loss to the Thunder on Thursday.

  • Hornets' Collin Sexton: Looks sharp in 15 minutes

Sexton produced 15 points (5-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two assists, one rebound and one steal in 15 minutes of Thursday's 122-116 preseason loss to the Thunder.

Sexton came off the bench for the second game in a row Thursday, but he made a big impact in this one. Kon Knueppeland Tre Mann have each started one preseason game so far, but based on coach Charles Lee's comments, Sexton may get a chance to showcase what he can in the first unit as well -- Lee mentioned the Hornets may base their starters on the matchups.

  • Hornets' Collin Sexton: Candidate to start based on matchup

Head coach Charles Lee suggested Sunday that Sexton could be a candidate to start this season, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Lee also mentioned Kon Knueppel, who started Sunday's preseason opener against the Thunder, and Tre Mann as possibilities for a starting role in 2025-26. With this situation in a state of flux, matchups could dictate who gets the nod in the first unit on a game-to-game basis. Sexton should still play a significant role as a scorer off the bench, as he averaged 18.4 points, 4.2 assists and 1.7 three-pointers in 27.9 minutes per game in 63 regular-season contests for the Jazz in 2024-25.

  • Hornets' Collin Sexton: Traded to Charlotte

The Jazz traded Sexton and a 2031 second-round pick to the Hornets on Sunday in exchange for Jusuf Nurkic, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

Sexton averaged at least 18.0 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds while posting 48/39/86 shooting splits over his final two seasons in Utah and will now join his third NBA team. It's still early in the offseason, so Sexton could be on the move again, but if he sticks in Charlotte, he'd presumably be one of the top reserve guards behind LaMelo Ball (ankle), Brandon Miller (wrist) and Kon Knueppel. Sexton has one year remaining on his current deal and is slated to make $19 million in 2025-26.

  • Jazz's Collin Sexton: Not starting Friday

Sexton is not in Utah's starting lineup against Oklahoma City.

Sexton has started in all but two games this season, but he'll come off the bench for the first time since Oct. 31 while Jaden Springer makes his first start of the season. Sexton has averaged 20.1 points, 4.0 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals over 26.8 minutes per game over his last 10 outings.
