Lakers' Jaxson Hayes: Returns after three-game absence
Hayes (knee) finished with two points (1-2 FG), three assists, two rebounds, one steal and one block in 13 minutes off the bench Wednesday in the Lakers' 116-115 win over the Timberwolves.
Back in action after missing the previous three games due to left knee patellar tendinopathy, Hayes slotted back into his usual role as the top backup to starting center Deandre Ayton. Aside from racking up four fouls, Hayes came through with a well-rounded line in his return, but he's unlikely to see his minutes rise much from this level while Ayton remains healthy and locked in atop the depth chart.

Lakers' Dalton Knecht: Pops for 15 points from bench
Knecht registered 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 0-1 FT), one rebound, one assist, two blocks and one steal in 36 minutes during Wednesday's 116-115 win over the Timberwolves.
Knecht's role should continue to expand, given the state of the Lakers' roster. If the persistent trade rumors surrounding Knecht had any truth to them, the organization is likely relieved that they didn't pull the trigger. The team is snake-bit with injures, and support players like Knecht will be essential in keeping the team above water for the next few weeks.

Lakers' Deandre Ayton: Records double-double in victory
Ayton had 17 points (8-11 FG, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists and one block in 35 minutes during Wednesday's 116-115 win over the Timberwolves.
Ayton crafted his second double-double of the season during the thrilling last-second win. The Lakers are currently riddled with injuries, and Ayton is one of the last vestiges of what was the team's projected starting lineup to begin the season. He's enjoyed a solid start to the season, averaging 16.0 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots over five games.

Lakers' Jake LaRavia: Puts up 27 points in narrow win
LaRavia logged 27 points (10-11 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 2-5 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 37 minutes during Wednesday's 116-115 win over the Timberwolves.
Although the Lakers were a shell of themselves with several players out with injury, LaRavia took advantage of the start Wednesday and shot a near-perfect game alongside Austin Reaves, who hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer. LaRavia's performance could shake things up in a rotation that previously featured Marcus Smart (quad) and Gabe Vincent (ankle) in the first unit.

Lakers' Austin Reaves: Career high in assists, hits GW
Reaves generated 28 points (9-24 FG, 3-11 3Pt, 7-7 FT), 16 assists, one rebound and two steals across 40 minutes of Wednesday's 116-115 win over the Timberwolves.
Reaves, after dropping 51 and 41 points in his last two games, respectively, delivered an elite total in a different category. The shooting guard tied his career high in assists, marking his third double-double of the campaign. He also drilled a game-winning 12-footer at the buzzer to give the Lakers a 3-2 record this season. Reaves is proving his breakout 2024-25 campaign wasn't a fluke, and he's averaging 34.2 points, 10.0 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game this season.

Lakers' Adou Thiero: Sent to G League
The Lakers assigned Thiero (knee) to their G League affiliate South Bay Lakers on Wednesday, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
Thiero is recovering from a knee injury he sustained toward the end of his college career before being selected by the Lakers in the 2025 NBA Draft. The wing was expected to be ready for the start of training camp, but his recovery has slowed substantially. Per Dan Woike of The Athletic, Thiero has been cleared for on-court contact work, and the next step in his progression is being cleared for 5-on-5 work. He'll be incorporated into team practices over the next week, starting in South Bay.

Lakers' Marcus Smart: Won't play Wednesday
Smart (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves, NBA reporter Jovan Buha reports.
Smart will miss a second straight game due to a left quadriceps contusion. The veteran guard was initially listed as questionable but was downgraded. The team will likely lean on Jake LaRavia, Dalton Knecht and Bronny James to help shoulder the load in the backcourt.

Lakers' Jaxson Hayes: Available Wednesday
Hayes (knee) is available for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
Hayes is set to end a three-game absence due to a knee issue. With Maxi Kleber out with an oblique strain, Hayes is in position to serve as the Lakers' top backup center behind Deandre Ayton going forward.

Lakers' Marcus Smart: Questionable for Wednesday
Smart (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves.
Smart is in jeopardy of missing his second consecutive contest due to a right quadriceps strain he sustained in Sunday's win over the Kings. If the veteran guard joins Luka Doncic (finger/leg) and Gabe Vincent (ankle) on the sidelines, Dalton Knecht, Nick Smith and Bronny James are candidates for increased playing time.

Lakers' Jaxson Hayes: Iffy for Wednesday
Hayes (knee) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves.
Hayes has missed the last three games due to a knee issue. He appears to be trending in the right direction to return. If he's unable to play for a fourth straight game, the team will likely continue to look to Jarred Vanderbilt for help in the frontcourt.

Lakers' Bronny James: Scoreless in 20 minutes
James racked up zero points (0-2 FG), three rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal over 20 minutes during Monday's 122-108 loss to the Trail Blazers.
James made his second appearance of the season with the Lakers in need of some emergency depth in the backcourt. Although he failed to score, James did have some nice moments defensively. Marcus Smart (quadriceps) is hopeful to be back in action Wednesday, while Gabe Vincent (ankle) is expected to miss multiple weeks, which could keep James involved at the back end of the rotation.

Lakers' Dalton Knecht: Steps up with 16 points
Knecht finished with 16 points (5-13 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals in 25 minutes during Monday's 122-108 loss to the Trail Blazers.
Knecht didn't play at all on Opening Night, but his minutes have been trending up for three straight games due to injuries. He's shooting 37.5 percent from the field overall, but he did have some nice moments in Monday's loss. If the Lakers get some reinforcements back for Wednesday's game against Minnesota, Knecht could again be facing an uphill battle for playing time.

Lakers' Jarred Vanderbilt: Fares well as starter
Vanderbilt provided 14 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and three steals over 28 minutes during Monday's 122-108 loss to the Trail Blazers.
The Lakers were extremely shorthanded Monday, allowing Vanderbilt to move into the starting lineup. He's averaging 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals over his last two games, proving his worth as a short-term streamer until the Lakers get some reinforcements back.

Lakers' Austin Reaves: Drops 41 points in defeat
Reaves recorded 41 points (13-22 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 12-14 FT), five assists, four rebounds and three steals in 39 minutes during Monday's 122-108 loss to the Trail Blazers.
Following his career-high 51-point performance in Sunday's win over the Kings, Reaves notched his third career outing with at least 40 points. The rising star also tied the team-high marks in assists and steals. With Luka Doncic (finger/leg) expected to miss at least the next four games -- and LeBron James (sciatica) and Gabe Vincent (ankle) sidelined for an extended period -- the Lakers should continue relying heavily on Reaves to carry the offense through his scoring and playmaking.

Lakers' Gabe Vincent: Set to miss multiple weeks
Vincent (ankle) is expected to miss two to four weeks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Vincent suffered a left ankle sprain Sunday against the Kings and is expected to miss multiple weeks while recovering. With both him and Luka Doncic (finger) sidelined for multiple games and Marcus Smart (quadriceps) also banged up, the depleted Lakers backcourt could give playing time to Bronny James, along with increased wing minutes for Jake LaRavia and Dalton Knecht.
