After spending parts of 10 seasons in the NHL, Kristian Huselius told Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet that he has decided to give up hockey due to a hip injury that has plagued him for a couple of years.
Currently a free agent in the NHL, he had been playing for AIK in the Swedish Elite League this season and scored two goals to go with one assist in five games but could no longer continue, telling the Aftonbladet that he can now barely lift his leg.
Huselius, 34, last appeared in the NHL as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets, playing in only two games last season. He signed with the team as a free agent before the 2008-09 season and after two reasonably successful years had his career derailed by injuries.
Over his last two NHL seasons, he was able to play in only 41 of a possible 164 games.
Huselius previously played for the Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames. He scored a career-high 34 goals with the Flames during the 2006-07 season. He had a five-year stretch from 2005-06 through 2009-10 in which he scored at least 20 goals each season.
In 662 games, he scored 190 goals to go with 261 assists.
