NFL Week 1 Texans vs Rams: More Emphasis on Offense or Young Defense in Matchup?

Top Blake Corum News

  • Rams' Blake Corum: Still ahead of Hunter

Corum recorded four rushes for 22 yards in Saturday's 23-22 preseason win over the Chargers.

Kyren Williams and all starters in the Rams' offense sat Saturday, leaving Corum as the first back on the field. He played only one series before giving way to rookie Jarquez Hunter, but Corum still appears to be the favorite to begin the season second on the depth chart.

  • Rams' Blake Corum: Two TDs in preseason opener

Corum rushed nine times for 32 yards and two touchdowns while catching one of two targets for four yards in Saturday's 31-21 preseason win over the Cowboys.

Corum got the start with the Rams resting their first stringers, and the 2024 third-round draft pick made the most of his opportunity. He capped the Rams' first two drives with touchdown runs of two and four yards. Rookie fourth-round draft pick Jarquez Hunter, who is competing with Corum for the second spot on the depth chart behind Kyren Williams, had 41 yards on 11 carries. Corum appears to be running slightly ahead of Hunter heading into the Rams' second preseason game against the Chargers next Saturday.

  • Rams' Blake Corum: Taking part in practice

Corum (forearm) has been an active participant at OTAs, per the Rams' official site.

Corum suited up for all 17 regular-season games during his uneventful rookie campaign but missed both of Los Angeles' playoff bouts due to a fractured forearm suffered Week 18. The 2024 third-round pick now seems back to full health, though heading into Year 2 he faces new competition from rookie fourth-round pick Jarquez Hunter for the backup role behind Kyren Williams. As a rookie, Corum rushed just 58 times for 207 yards (3.6 YPC) while failing to reach the end zone, adding just seven catches (on eight targets) for 58 yards. Hunter boasts big-play speed that could make him a fitting complement to Williams, so Corum will need to show more this offseason to avoid being stuck in a negligible role again.
