Jalen Brooks: Returns to practice squad
Brooks (knee) reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Brooks played four snaps on offense and 17 snaps with the special-teams unit in the Cowboys' 37-22 win over the Jets in Week 5. The wide receiver didn't record any stats on offense, while he added a tackle in punt coverage. Additionally, he suffered an apparent knee injury in the fourth quarter of the contest, and he was considered questionable to return, Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com reports.

Cowboys' Jalen Brooks: Joins active roster
Brooks was elevated from the Cowboys' practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
The 2023 seventh-round pick from South Carolina failed to make the Cowboys' initial 53-man roster in late August, but he stuck around on the practice squad and has been elevated for Sunday's matchup against the Jets. Brooks most recently played for Dallas in 2024, catching 12 of 30 targets for 177 yards and one touchdown through 14 games. He'll likely play a depth role in the Cowboys' wide-receiver room in Week 5.

Jalen Brooks: Sticking around Dallas
Brooks was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad Wednesday.
Brooks will stick around Dallas after clearing waivers. The wide receiver appeared in 14 regular-season contests with the team in 2024, and he will provide the Cowboys with an additional experienced depth option ahead of the 2025 season.

The Cowboys waived Brooks on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Brooks appeared in 14 regular-season games with Dallas last season and turned 30 targets into a 12-177-1 receiving line. He had a 5-72-1 line across three preseason contests this summer. If Brooks clears waivers, he could be a candidate to rejoin the team via the practice squad.

The 2023 seventh-round pick was on the other end of Joe Milton's only TD pass of the night, a 29-yard toss in the third quarter that saw Brooks get late separation from his defender in the end zone. Brooks was working through a hip injury leading up to Saturday's game but was cleared to play after going through pregame warmups without suffering a setback. The 2023 seventh-rounder is battling for a spot on Dallas' 53-man roster, but it's worth noting that he didn't play a single snap on special teams after playing six in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Rams. Cowboys' Jalen Brooks: Working through hip injury
Brooks did not participate in Tuesday's training camp practice due to a hip injury, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Brooks may have tweaked his hip during the Cowboys' 31-21 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday, when he played 45 snaps (39 on offense, six on special teams) and logged two catches on three targets for 26 yards. Brooks has seen a minimal role in the Cowboys' offense since entering the league in 2023 as a seventh-round pick, so his attendance at practices and preseason games is crucial for his chances of making the 53-man roster. His practice participation over the coming days will play a factor in whether he'll play in Saturday's exhibition contest against the Ravens.

Cowboys' Jalen Brooks: Minimal role again in 2024
Brooks caught only 12 of 30 targets for 177 yards and a touchdown over 14 regular-season games in 2024.
The second-year wideout was only charged with one drop officially, but his poor catch rate is still concerning. Brooks made more than one catch in only one 2024 game, posting a 2-26-0 line on five targets in Week 9 against the Falcons, and while he did haul in his first career TD in Week 15, his role didn't increase over the final couple games of the season while CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) was shut down. Brandin Cooks will be a free agent this offseason, but even if the Cowboys don't bring in additional help for Lamb and Jalen Tolbert at the top of the depth chart, Brooks may head into 2025 behind the likes of Jonathan Mingo and Ryan Flournoy for depth snaps at WR.
