Commanders' Jaylin Lane: Quiet in win
Lane caught one of two targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Chargers.
With Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Noah Brown (groin/knee) both out, Lane played a larger role on the Commanders' offense for the second consecutive week. The rookie from Virginia Tech has caught three of five targets for 34 yards across 34 offensive snaps during that span. He's operated as the team's No. 4 wideout, but his offensive role will likely diminish once McLaurin and Brown return from injury. Expect Lane to contribute both offensively and on special teams in the Commanders' Week 6 matchup against the Bears.

Commanders' Jaylin Lane: Catches two passes Sunday
Lane caught two of three targets for nine yards in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons.
The rookie had the most productive game in his pro career as a wide receiver Sunday, operating as Washington's No. 3 option with Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) and Noah Brown (groin) sidelined. Lane has now caught five of his 11 targets for 29 yards while accumulating 177 punt-return yards, including a 90-yard TD, over his first four NFL games. He's likely to remain a depth option ahead of a Week 5 matchup against the Chargers, though his role could continue to expand if McLaurin and Brown remain out.

Commanders' Jaylin Lane: Returns punt for TD
Lane ran a punt back for a touchdown and lost two yards on his lone reception in a 41-24 win over the Raiders on Sunday.
The rookie fourth-round pick was one of five Washington wide receivers with route share above 40 percent but below 60 percent. That was partially a product of Terry McLaurin exiting early with a quad injury and Noah Brown (groin) not being available, but Deebo Samuel also had his snaps scaled way back for reasons seemingly unrelated to any injury. In any case, Lane is making a strong impression in the return game and could eventually take over some of Samuel's tasks on offense if Deebo misses time.

Commanders' Jaylin Lane: Targeted twice in debut
Lane caught one of his two targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 21-6 win over the Giants.
Lane operated as the No. 4 wide receiver in the Commanders' offense, but it was encouraging to see him targeted twice while he played 30 percent of the team's offensive snaps. The rookie wideout will continue to develop as the season progresses, but he'll likely face an uphill battle for steady usage in an offense that is flush with playmakers. Lane will have his next opportunity to take a step forward in Week 2 when the Commanders visit the Packers.

Commanders' Jaylin Lane: Resting up for Week 1
Lane won't play in Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
With no injury reported, it's a sign that the Commanders are more interested in keeping Lane healthy than evaluating him further. The rookie fourth-round pick caught three of seven targets for 42 yards this preseason, and while he probably won't be an immediate starter, the uncertainty surrounding Terry McLaurin (contract) and Noah Brown (undisclosed) could free up snaps for Lane in Week 1 against the Giants. Lane may also get work on special teams, considering he had two return TDs in college and then ran a 4.34 40 at the 2025 NFL Combine.

Commanders' Jaylin Lane: Puts up 42 yards
Lane caught three of six targets for 42 yards in Monday's preseason loss to the Bengals.
Lane, Deebo Samuel and Luke McCaffrey were the wide receivers on Jayden Daniels' lone drive, which resulted in a TD after four consecutive rush attempts (the last being a scramble). Lane caught a 12-yard pass from Josh Johnson on the second drive and then continued playing well into the third quarter. The rookie fourth-round pick likely will be a backup come Week 1, but there is some chance of a big opportunity opening up if the Commanders can't figure things out with Terry McLaurin, who still isn't practicing after requesting a trade earlier this month.

Commanders' Jaylin Lane: Getting some first-team work
Lane has taken some snaps with the first-team offense during training camp, Bryan Manning of Commanders Wire reports.
Lane was nearly the star of Sunday's practice, making an incredible catch over two defenders in the corner of the end zone on a pass from QB Jayden Daniels during an end-of-game drill. The rookie only got one foot in, but that didn't stop Daniels and other teammates from celebrating. In any case, Lane is unlikely to open his career as a starter, but his status as a fourth-round pick pretty much guarantees him a roster spot, and it's a good sign he's already mixing in with the first-team offense. Those opportunities to run with the starters may decline once Terry McLaurin (ankle / contract) is available and the season draws nearer. Lane is also a candidate for punt returns, given that he has 4.34 speed and scored twice on special teams during his college career.
