  • 49ers' Ben Bartch: Out for second preseason game

Bartch (elbow) won't be available for Saturday's preseason game against Las Vegas, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Bartch suffered the injury in practice Tuesday, just a couple of weeks after being activated from the active/non-football injury list with a quadriceps issue. The 27-year-old is in line to be San Francisco's starting left guard alongside left tackle Trent Williams, but Bartch's injury history could be a cause for concern. He has only appeared in 21 regular-season games over the last three campaigns, spending time on injured reserve with a knee injury in 2022 and in 2024 with a high-ankle sprain.

Bartch suffered an undisclosed injury during San Francisco's practice Tuesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Bartch exited practice and didn't return, while the severity of his injury is currently unknown. The 27-year-old is expected to serve as the team's starting left guard during the upcoming campaign, but if he ends up being forced to miss extended time, Nick Zakelj will likely start in his place.

  • 49ers' Ben Bartch: In line to start at LG

Offensive line coach Chris Foerster declared Sunday that the starting left guard spot is "Bartch's job to lose," Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bartch is poised to open the season as the starting left guard for the 49ers, ahead of Nick Zakelj. Bartch has made 22 regular-season NFL starts in his career since being drafted in the fourth round by the Jaguars in 2020, including two starts for the 49ers in 2024.

Bartch (quadriceps) was activated from the active/non-football injury list by the 49ers on Thursday.

The offensive guard began training camp with the designation after suffering the injury away from the team's facilities, per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. Bartch, a 2020 fourth-round pick of the Jaguars who has started 22 regular-season games across five seasons, is projected to start at left guard for the 49ers in 2025.

It is now being reported that it was a quadriceps injury suffered away from the team's facilities that landed Bartch on the active/non-football injury list last week. While there is currently no timetable on his return, he will likely serve as the team's starting left guard once healthy.

  • 49ers' Ben Bartch: Out to begin camp

Bartch (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury list Friday.

Bartch suffered a high-ankle sprain to end the 2024 season, but it's unclear if that's why he'll start camp sidelined. The 49ers will hope his absence is brief, as he's projected to start at left guard come the regular season.

  • 49ers' Ben Bartch: Inks one-year extension

The 49ers signed Bartch (ankle) to a one-year contract extension Monday.

Bartch missed the final four games of the 2024 campaign due to an ankle injury that resulted in his placement on IR, but he projects to be fully healthy for the start of offseason activities. If Aaron Banks (knee) departs in free agency, Bartch could get a chance to compete for the starting gig at left guard.

  • 49ers' Ben Bartch: Extended absence expected

Bartch suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Bears and is slated to go on injured reserve this week, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Bartch's season may be over, as a move to IR would force him to miss the 49ers' final four games of the regular season. In that case, San Francisco would have to qualify for a postseason spot for the 26-year-old to take the field again before the 2025 season.
