  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Likely clinched placekicking job

Shrader took all the kicks in Saturday's preseason game, which likely means he's won the starting job, the Indianapolis Star reports. He made all four field-goal attempts, including a 56-yarder, and converted his lone extra-point attempt.

Maddux Trujillo is expected to get all kicking opportunities in the final preseason game. Shrader has been seen as ahead in the kicking competition throughout training camp.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Solid performance in preseason loss

Shrader made three of four field-goal attempts in Thursday's preseason loss at Baltimore. He missed a 52-yard attempt.

Shrader was seen as having a significant lead over Maddux Trujillo for the placekicking job in training camp, and Thursday's game should help his cause. Trujillo may get more of an opportunity in the next preseason game (he converted his only extra-point attempt in Thursday's game).

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Well ahead of Trujillo

Shrader has opened up a clear lead over Maddux Trujillo in the Colts' kicking competition, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

Shrader has been far more accurate in camp, though he missed a long field-goal attempt in the final two-minute drill of a joint practice with Baltimore on Tuesday. While Trujillo doesn't appear to be a serious contender to win the job over Shrader, Boyd believes the Colts could add another kicker if Shrader struggles in the preseason, which begins for the Colts with a road game in Baltimore on Thursday.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Will face competition for K job

Shrader and and Maddux Trujillo are in a true competition for the starting placekicker job, special teams coordinator Brian Mason recently told 107.5 FM The Fan in Indianapolis. "Spencer certainly has a little bit of a step up in that. He's already been in the league, already been here, but it is definitely an open competition," said Mason.

Shrader inked a two-year deal with the Colts in mid-March after a tumultuous rookie campaign, in which he appeared in four combined games between Indianapolis, Kansas City and the Jets. He converted all five of his field-goal tries and all nine extra-point attempts across those appearances. The Colts will have a new kicker this season after releasing Matt Gay in April. While Shrader's two-year contract likely indicates he's the favorite, it wouldn't be surprising if Trujillo wins the job or if the team acquires another veteran late in training camp for the job. Shrader will need to have a strong preseason as a result.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Competition departs

Shrader is the only remaining kicker on Indianapolis' roster following the release of Matt Gay on Thursday.

Shrader inked a two-year deal with the Colts mid-March after a tumultuous rookie campaign, in which he appeared in four combined games between Indianapolis, Kansas City and the Jets. He converted all five of his field-goal tries and all nine extra-point attempts across those appearances. Gay, meanwhile, went 31 for 37 on field-goal tries across 16 regular-season appearances with the Colts, with all six misses coming from 50-plus yards out. Indianapolis will doubtless bring in further options to compete with Shrader this offseason, but Gay's release provides him a clear path to securing the No. 1 job.

  • Colts' Spencer Shrader: Circles back to Colts

Shrader signed a two-year deal with the Colts on Thursday.

Shrader had a whirlwind rookie season, as he appeared in games for the Colts, Chiefs and Jets. In total, he went 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts and converted all nine of his extra-point attempts across four games. Per James Boyd of The Athletic, Shrader will compete with Matt Gay for the kicker job this summer.

  • Spencer Shrader: Non-tendered by Kansas City

Shrader (hamstring) became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday after the Chiefs did not tender his contract, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.

Shrader played two regular-season games for the Chiefs while filling in for Harrison Butker, who was on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Shrader went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made all six of his extra-point tries with Kansas City, but he himself went on IR in early December due to a hamstring injury. Now that he's an unrestricted free agent, Shrader will have the freedom to sign with a team looking to sign a kicker.

  • Chiefs' Spencer Shrader: Lands on IR

The Chiefs placed Shrader (hamstring) on injured reserve Wednesday.

Shrader is thus slated to miss at least four games, but by the time he's first eligible for activation Week 18, the Chiefs could get Harrison Butker (knee) back from IR. While Butker remains out through at least this Sunday's game against the Chargers, however, the Chiefs will turn to Matthew Wright to handle kicking duties after signing him off the practice squad. Shrader has kicked in four games this season -- two for the Chiefs, one for the Jets and one for the Colts -- and has converted on all 14 of his kicks (nine extra points, five field goals).

  • Chiefs' Spencer Shrader: Ruled out for Friday

Shrader (hamstring) has been ruled out for Friday's Week 13 matchup against Las Vegas.

Shrader wasn't able to practice at all this week due to a hamstring injury that occurred during a private workout Monday. The rookie took over kicking duties from the injured Harrison Butker (knee) for Kansas City in Week 11 and converted all three of his field-goal tries and all six of his extra-point attempts over two contests. With Shrader ruled out Friday, Kansas City elevated Matthew Wright from its practice squad to kick against the Raiders.

  • Chiefs' Spencer Shrader: Sidelined for practice

    Shrader (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday.

Shrader has now logged consecutive absences to begin Week 13 prep after injuring his hamstring in a private workout Monday, so he looks to be trending toward missing Friday's matchup against the Raiders. The Notre Dame product has performed well while filling in for the injured Harrison Butker (knee) over the last two games, converting all three of his field-goal attempts and all six of his extra-point tries. Kansas City added Matthew Wright to its practice squad Tuesday, so he's expected to assume the Chiefs' kicking duties if Shrader is held out Week 13.
