Commanders' Tyler Owens: Participates in practice
Owens (ankle) took first-team reps in training camp last week, Hayley Salvatore of Commanders.com reports.
Owens ended the 2024 season on injured reserve with an ankle injury suffered in Week 16. His high-level play on special teams last season has earned him an expanded role on defense, but to what degree remains to seen. The 24-year-old could be in position to start at safety following Jeremy Chinn's departure this offseason.

Commanders' Tyler Owens: Placed on IR due to ankle injury
The Commanders placed Owens (ankle) on injured reserve Saturday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Owens will miss the last two games of the season due to an ankle injury. The undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech will end the regular season with 11 tackles (seven solo) and one forced fumble across 12 games while playing solely on special teams. He could be activated off IR and play for the Commanders again, but only if Washington were to make it to the Super Bowl.

Owens will miss the final two games of the regular season due to an ankle injury he picked up against the Eagles in Week 16, and he'll now aim to be available for the Commanders' first game of the postseason. Commanders' Tyler Owens: Out for Sunday
Owens (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
The 23-year-old from Texas Tech played 27 special-teams snaps in the Commanders' Week 16 win over the Eagles, recording three solo tackles. However, it appears Owens sustained an ankle injury in the process, as he was held out of practice all week. Darrick Forrest could see additional special-teams snaps with Owens sidelined in Week 17.

Owens will miss a third consecutive game as he works his way back from a shin injury. The depth safety returned to practice as a limited participant Thursday, but he'll need more time to get healthy before retaking the field.
