Texans' Jared Wayne: Returns to practice squad
Wayne reverted to the Texans' practice squad Monday.
Wayne was elevated for the first time this season ahead of Sunday's win over San Francisco, as both Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) were unable to suit up. He took the field for 35 of the Texans' 80 offensive snaps -- third-most among Houston wideouts -- and caught both of his targets for 20 yards. Wayne's likelihood of being elevated again for a Week 9 game versus Denver could depend on whether Collins and/or Kirk is able to return to action.

Texans' Jared Wayne: Makes season debut
Wayne caught both of his targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 26-15 win over the 49ers.
Wayne was elevated from the practice squad due to both Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) being unavailable. He played 35 snaps, third-most among the wideouts, and recorded the first two receptions of his career after seeing action in three games during the regular season and one playoff game in 2024. He's eligible to be elevated from the practice squad on two more occasions this season while Collins and Kirk work their way back to full health.

The Texans on Saturday elevated Wayne to the active roster for Week 8 against San Francisco.

The 25-year-old from Pittsburgh adds much-needed depth to the Texans' receiving corps, as Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) are both dealing with injuries. Wayne appeared in three games with the Texans in 2024, failing to record an offensive stat over 64 total snaps (40 on offense, 24 on special teams). Now back with the active roster, he's likely to contribute on both offense and special teams in Houston's Week 8 matchup against the 49ers.

Wayne, who was recently added to the active roster, was on the field for 24 snaps, the most in his four games played during the regular season and playoffs. Wayne was elevated for the second straight week ahead of Wednesday's loss to Baltimore and logged 16 offensive snaps without receiving a target. He's now been elevated three total times this season, so the Texans would need to sign Wayne to their active roster in order for him to play Week 18 against Tennessee. Wayne was in Houston for a visit Tuesday and he must've impressed, earning himself an opportunity with the team's practice unit.
