49ers' Luke Gifford: Staying in San Francisco
The 49ers and Gifford agreed to terms on a two-year, $5.3 million extension Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The Nebraska product is now set to remain in San Francisco after spending his 2025 campaign with the 49ers. Across 17 regular-season games last year, Gifford tallied 35 total tackles and one pass defensed, logging 523 total snaps (353 on special teams, 170 on defense). He's expected to play a key role on San Francisco's special-teams unit during the 2026 season.

49ers' Luke Gifford: Gearing up Saturday
Gifford (quadriceps) will play in Saturday's divisional-round game versus the Seahawks.
Gifford missed the wild-card win over the Eagles, but he'll return to the lineup to take on the 49ers' division rival. Gifford's defensive usage varies on a week-to-week basis, but he has played more than 10 defensive snaps just once in the past seven games. The veteran linebacker will certainly have a key role on special teams, though.

49ers' Luke Gifford: Expected to return Saturday
The 49ers expect Gifford (quadriceps) to play in Saturday's divisional-round matchup versus the Seahawks, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Gifford is seemingly healthy again after missing last week's wild-card win over the Eagles with a quadriceps injury. The 30-year-old should resume his role as a special teamer and depth defender against Seattle.

49ers' Luke Gifford: Could play in divisional round
Gifford (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Saturday's NFC divisional-round tilt against Seattle, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Gifford was unable to play in the 49ers' wild-card win against the Eagles due to a quadriceps injury. He earned himself the questionable tag for Saturday after putting together a DNP-DNP-LP practice log, and his status may not be officially known until approximately 90 minutes before the 8:00 p.m. ET kickoff, when San Francisco announces its inactive players. With Dee Winters (ankle) also questionable, Curtis Robinson and Garret Wallow could join Eric Kendricks as the 49ers' starting linebackers for the divisional round.

49ers' Luke Gifford: Estimated as DNP on Tuesday
Gifford (quadriceps) did not participate in Tuesday's walkthrough practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Gifford was held out of the 49ers' NFC wild-card round win over the Eagles on Sunday due to a quadriceps injury he sustained against the Seahawks in Week 18. He hasn't progressed enough in his recovery to return to practice, but he'll have two more chances to log at least a limited session ahead of Saturday's NFC divisional-round clash against Seattle.

49ers' Luke Gifford: Questionable for wild-card round
Gifford (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Sunday's wild-card game against the Eagles, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Gifford and Dee Winters (ankle) both got hurt in Week 18 against the Seahawks, leaving each of San Francisco's starting outside linebackers questionable for Sunday's playoff matchup. Eric Kendricks, Curtis Robinson and Garret Wallow are the only remaining healthy options in the 49ers' injury-riddled linebacking corps.

49ers' Luke Gifford: Questionable for wild-card round
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Gifford (quadriceps) will be evaluated throughout the week to determine his status for the wild-card round, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Gifford suffered a quad injury in the 49ers' Week 18 game against the Seahawks, and it's unclear if he'll be available to open the postseason. If Gifford and Dee Winters (ankle) are unable to play Sunday against the Eagles, Curtis Robinson and Garret Wallow would likely slot in alongside Eric Kendricks.
