Matthew Wright: Cut by Washington
The Commanders released Wright from their practice squad Tuesday.
Wright was elevated from the practice squad to handle kicking duties for the Commanders in Monday's 28-7 loss to Kansas City. Though he connected on his only kick of the game -- an extra-point try late in the second quarter -- Wright will end up parting ways with the organization one day later. The release likely signals that Matt Gay (back) will be ready to serve as the Commanders' placekicker in their Week 9 matchup with the Seahawks.

Commanders' Matthew Wright: Making spot start for Commanders
Washington signed Wright to the practice squad Monday and elevated him to the active roster to handle placekicking duties in place of Matt Gay (back) versus the Chiefs.
Wright, who made a start for the Titans in Week 6 but was then cut from Tennessee's practice squad on Oct. 17, now will hold down the fort at kicker for the Commanders for at least one game. He was perfect in limited action for the Titans, converting his only field-goal try and his lone extra-point attempt. If Gay's injury keeps him sidelined more than one contest, Wright could get another chance to kick Week 9 versus Seattle.

Commanders' Matthew Wright: Miniscule workload during MNF
Wright did not attempt a field goal and made his only extra-point try in Monday night's 28-7 loss to the Chiefs.
Wright was elevated from the practice squad to start in place of Matt Gay (back) in Week 8, but he ultimately wasn't overly busy in the defeat. The kicker has now made two spot starts with the Titans and Commanders this season, making his only field-goal attempt while going 2-for-2 on PATs. If Gay is unavailable for Washington's Week 9 matchup with the Seahawks, Wright would likely be elevated again.

Matthew Wright: Dropped by Tennessee
Wright was cut from the Titans' practice squad Friday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
The UCF product was elevated to Tennessee's active roster for the Week 6 loss to the Raiders while Joey Slye (calf) was sidelined with an injury. Wright was perfect in the loss, converting on his lone field-goal attempt and extra-point tries. Although Slye has practiced in a limited fashion this week, the Titans' decision to drop Wright suggests Slye will likely return from injury in the Week 7 matchup against the Patriots.

Titans' Matthew Wright: Goes back to practice squad
Wright reverted to Tennessee's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Wright was elevated from the practice squad to kick for the Titans this past Sunday and made his lone field-goal attempt and only extra-point try. His opportunity came as a result of Joey Slye missing the game due to a calf injury. If Slye is sidelined again this Sunday against New England, Wright figures to kick for Tennessee again.

Titans' Matthew Wright: Impresses in Week 6
Wright made his lone field-goal and extra-point attempts during Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Raiders.
The UCF product performed well while filling in for the injured Joey Slye (calf) in the Week 6 loss, converting on both of his kicks. Following Sunday's performance, Wright is likely to remain the Titans' top placekicker in the Week 7 matchup against the Patriots if Slye is unable to return.

Titans' Matthew Wright: Will kick for Tennessee in Week 6
The Titans elevated Wright from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Wright was added to the Titans' practice squad Wednesday, and he will serve as Tennessee's kicker for Sunday's game against Las Vegas due to the absence of Joey Slye (calf). Wright appeared in five regular-season games between the Titans, Chiefs and 49ers in 2024 and went 15-for-16 on field-goal attempts and 6-for-6 on extra-point tries.

Titans' Matthew Wright: Set to kick for Titans on Sunday
Wright is slated to kick for the Titans in Sunday's game against the Raiders, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
Wright, who joined the Titans' practice squad Wednesday, is slated to be elevated ahead of Sunday's contest, with fellow kicker Joey Slye (calf) having been ruled out this week. Through five games to date, Slye has recorded a total of 43 points, including 10 in a Week 5 win over the Cardinals. With that pace in mind, Wright represents a lineup option for those scrambling for kicker help this weekend.

Matthew Wright: Joins Titans' practice squad
Tennessee signed Wright to its practice squad Wednesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Regular starting kicker Joey Slye did not participate at practice Wednesday due to a calf injury, so Wright's name will be one to keep an eye on as Sunday's game at Las Vegas approaches. In five games in 2024 with the Chiefs, 49ers and Titans, he made 15 of his 16 field-goal attempts and all six of his extra-point tries.

Matthew Wright: Released by Carolina
Wright was released by the Panthers on Monday, Darin Gantt of the team's official website reports.
Wright signed with the Panthers in February and competed with rookie Ryan Fitzgerald for the team's starting kicker role at training camp, ultimately losing the battle. Wright missed his lone field-goal attempt, while also adding a PAT over two preseason games with Carolina. The kicker has appeared in at least one regular-season contest in five consecutive seasons, so he'll likely find another opportunity elsewhere in 2025.

Panthers' Matthew Wright: Competing for job
Wright and Ryan Fitzgerald are in a close competition for Carolina's kicking job, according to Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer.
Fitzgerald is an undrafted rookie, while Wright has kicked for six different NFL teams in the regular season, converting 55 of 63 field-goal attempts (87.3 percent) and 41 of 43 PATs (95.3 percent) in 29 games. Panthers coach Dave Canales said Monday that he doesn't have any clarity on the competition, because both kickers have been impressive this summer and made strong cases for the job.

Panthers' Matthew Wright: Inks deal with Carolina
The Panthers signed Wright to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Wright spent time with Kansas City, the 49ers and the Titans in 2024, converting 15 of his 16 field-goal attempts and all six of his extra-point tries. With Eddy Pineiro set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, Wright's signing provides Carolina with another option at kicker.

Matthew Wright: Sent back to practice squad
Wright reverted to Tennessee's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Wright was elevated from the Titans' practice squad ahead of Sunday's regular-season finale against Houston with Nick Folk (abdomen) unable to play. Wright made both of his field-goal attempts -- a 35-yarder and a 38-yarder -- in the contest and didn't attempt any extra points. The veteran placekicker also saw action in two games with Kansas City and in one game with San Francisco during the campaign, finishing a collective 15-for-16 on field-goal attempts (his only miss came from 59 yards out) and 6-for-6 on point-after tries. Given his success in all three of his stops this season, Wright could be an appealing option if any playoff team needs to replace its kicker at any point during the postseason.
