Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Lands on injured reserve
The Colts placed Montgomery (undisclosed) on the injured reserve list Wednesday.
By being placed on injured reserve, Montgomery will be forced to miss the entire 2025 season unless an injury settlement is reached. He spent the entire 2024 season on the Colts' practice squad but hasn't seen regular-season action since 2023 with Indianapolis, when he caught three passes (on eight targets) for 56 yards and a touchdown across seven games.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Misses practice Monday
Montgomery missed Monday's practice with an undisclosed injury, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Montgomery was not targeted and did not have a carry in Thursday's preseason loss at Baltimore. He was seen being assisted to the medical tent. He's likely dealing with some kind of injury as a result.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: No targets in preseason opener
Montgomery was not targeted and did not have a carry in Thursday's preseason loss at Baltimore. He was seen being assisted to the medical tent during the game, Sports Illustrated's Jake Arthur reports.
It's not clear if Montgomery was injured during the game or just wasn't part of the preseason game plan. Either way, it's not a good sign for his chances of making the final roster.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Rejoins Colts on futures deal
Indianapolis signed Montgomery to a reserve/futures contract Monday.
Montgomery didn't suit up for a regular-season game with the Colts in 2024, though he did log seven appearances with the team back in 2023. The 28-year-old will spend the offseason working to again earn a reserve gig with Indianapolis.

D.J. Montgomery: Sticking around with Colts
Montgomery signed with Indianapolis' practice squad Wednesday.
Montgomery appeared in three games for the Colts last season and will stick around with the team for the 2024 campaign. The 27-year-old can contribute on both offense and special teams if called upon.

D.J. Montgomery: Let go by Indy
The Colts cut Montgomery on Tuesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
Montgomery was competing for a depth wide receiver role in training camp, but he wasn't able to make the final roster after accumulating three catches on seven targets for 51 yards across three preseason games. He could be invited back to the Colts' practice squad, which is what happened last season. Montgomery ended up signing onto Indianapolis' 53-man roster in December, and he appeared in seven regular-season games, finishing the season with three catches on eight targets for 56 yards and one touchdown.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: No targets in season finale
Montgomery recorded three receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown on eight targets over seven games in 2023.
All of Montgomery's production this season actually came over the course of just two games in Weeks 15 and 16 versus the Steelers and at Atlanta, respectively. It was the first year of his NFL career in which he played more than 100 offensive snaps. Montgomery will now compete for a spot on the Colts' 53-man roster for 2024.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Limited role in win
Montgomery did not have a target in Sunday's win over the Raiders and played just four snaps on offense.
Montgomery was able to play despite missing practice time last week with a groin injury. However, he doesn't have a large role on offense as the fourth receiver. He had worked as the third receiver the past two weeks with Michael Pittman missing time with a concussion.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Active for Sunday
Montgomery is active for Sunday's game versus the Raiders.
Montgomery operated as the de facto third wide receiver in Week 16 with Michael Pittman out, but his role will probably shrink significantly with Pittman returning to action. Assuming nobody ahead of him gets hurt in Week 17, he figures to see just a handful of snaps at most.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Questionable for Sunday
Montgomery (groin) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders.
The 27-year-old wideout seems to be trending in the right direction to play Sunday, as he's gone from logging back-to-back DNPs to open the Colts' week of practice to a full workload Friday. Montgomery has seen four targets in each of his last two games, but if he's able to suit up, his usage could definitely decrease with Michael Pittman (concussion/shoulder) expected to return in Week 17. Indianapolis is already shorthanded going into Sunday's affair, as only two of its wide receivers are without an injury designation, so Montgomery's availability will be something to look out for closer to kickoff.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Misses first Week 17 practice
Montgomery was listed as a non-participant Wednesday on the Colts' estimated practice report.
While seeing increased snaps the last two weeks due to Michael Pittman dealing with a concussion, Montgomery has turned eight targets into a 3-56-1 receiving line across 103 offensive snaps. Once Pittman returns, Montgomery will go back to filling a depth and special-teams role. Montgomery's status for this Sunday's game against the Raiders will be clarified by his participation -- or lack thereof -- in practices Thursday and Friday.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Sidelined for another practice
Montgomery (groin) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Montgomery has sat out both of Indianapolis' first two Week 17 practices and will likely need to get back on the field in some capacity Friday to have a chance at playing Sunday versus the Raiders. Even if he's cleared to play this weekend, Montgomery could be in store for a reduced role with top wideout Michael Pittman making good progress in his recovery from a concussion and perhaps trending toward a return from a one-game absence Sunday.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Just one reception in loss
Montgomery had one reception for eight yards on four targets in Sunday's loss at Atlanta.
Montgomery saw an increased role with Michael Pittman sidelined with a concussion, but the former wasn't as productive as the prior week with the Indy passing game struggling. He played on 61 of the offense's 71 snaps and went out on 44 routes. Montgomery had 48 yards receiving and a touchdown the prior week. He'll move back to a more limited role if Pittman is able to return Sunday against the Raiders.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Records first career TD on Saturday
Montgomery hauled in two of four targets for 48 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 30-13 win over the Steelers.
The Colts expended three elevations on Montgomery in their previous three games, so they signed him to the active roster Thursday and kept him active for Week 15. He made the most of Saturday's opportunity after Michael Pittman exited in the second quarter with a concussion, recording both of his catches, including a 14-yard TD, on a scoring drive just before halftime. Both Josh Downs (3-19-0 on three targets) and Alec Pierce (1-13-0 on five targets) are immediately behind Pittman on the team's WR depth chart, so Montgomery may not be able to maintain the momentum even if Pittman can't make his way through the protocol for head injuries ahead of a Dec. 24 visit to the Falcons.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Signed to 53-man roster
The Colts signed Montgomery to their 53-man roster Thursday.
The 27-year-old wideout had been shuffling between the practice squad and gameday roster for weeks but now gets a permanent spot on the 53-man unit. He's played 11 offensive snaps and another 33 on special teams across three games for the Colts this season.

D.J. Montgomery: Headed back to practice squad
The Colts reverted Montgomery to the practice squad Monday.
Montgomery played 10 of his 15 snaps on special teams Sunday against the Bengals and did not record a stat. It was the third time he's been called up by the Colts this season, meaning that Indianapolis would have to sign him to the active roster if they want to utilize him again in the current campaign.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Bumps up from practice squad
The Colts elevated Montgomery to their active roster Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Montgomery joined the Colts' practice squad Aug. 31 after being let go by the team two days prior ahead of the 53-man roster deadline. He has been called up from the practice squad the past two weeks and has mainly been utilized on special teams. Montgomery likely will continue to serve on special teams while also providing depth at wide receiver.

D.J. Montgomery: Reverts to practice squad
Montgomery reverted to Indianapolis' practice squad Monday.
Montgomery didn't record any stats despite seeing playing time on both offense and special teams during Sunday's overtime win over the Titans. The 27-year-old has now played in two games this season and is still eligible to be elevated one more time.

Colts' D.J. Montgomery: Elevated again
Montgomery was elevated to the Colts' active roster Saturday.
Montgomery's elevation is his second in as many weeks. He saw the field for three offensive snaps (four percent) and nine on special teams (33 percent) in Week 12. Look for the young pass catcher to see a similar workload in Tennessee.
