Chargers' Scott Matlock: Returns to practice Wednesday
Matlock (personal) practiced in full Wednesday.
Matlock didn't play this past Sunday against Miami due to a personal matter. However, his presence in practice Wednesday suggests he'll be able to return to action in Week 7 versus Indianapolis. Matlock has typically logged around 20-to-30 percent of the Chargers' offensive snaps as the team's lone fullback.

Chargers' Scott Matlock: Won't play Week 6
Matlock has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins due to a personal matter.
Matlock is the only active fullback on the Chargers' roster, so offensive coordinator Greg Roman could deploy tight ends Tucker Fisk, Tyler Conklin and rookie fifth-rounder Oronde Gadsden in the backfield to serve as additional blockers. Matlock's next opportunity to play is Week 7 against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 19.

Chargers' Scott Matlock: Shows off versatility in 2024
Matlock appeared in all 17 regular-season games for the Chargers this season, making four catches on five targets for 28 yards while also recording seven combined tackles and 1.0 sacks.
Matlock appeared in all three phases of the game this year, playing snaps on offense at fullback, working on the edge on defense and also seeing work on special teams. His work at fullback was a new wrinkle in his repertoire this year after he played on the other side of the ball exclusively in his rookie campaign. With two years remaining on his rookie contract, Matlock should have more time in Los Angeles to develop his skills out of the backfield.

Chargers' Scott Matlock: Plays in all three phases
Matlock logged 11 snaps on offense, nine snaps on defense and 13 snaps on special teams in the Chargers' 17-15 loss to the Cardinals on Monday.
The Chargers have been regularly using Matlock in all three phases of the game this season, with the 24-year-old seeing action as a fullback, defensive tackle and on special teams. He's recorded one reception for seven yards on two targets to go with two tackles and a pass breakup through six games.

Chargers' Scott Matlock: Getting exposure to fullback
Matlock is listed as the Chargers' starting fullback ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
A 2023 sixth-round draft pick, Matlock played exclusively along the defensive line as a rookie, but first-year Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh praised the 6-foot-4, 296-pound Matlock's conditioning. Harbaugh believes Matlock has the ability to play both ways, perhaps in a way similar to how the Ravens have deployed Patrick Ricard in past seasons. Matlock played 256 defensive snaps and 94 special-teams snaps last season, registering 15 tackles.

Chargers' Scott Matlock: Depth in trenches for Bolts
The Chargers selected Matlock in the sixth round of the NFL Draft, 200th overall.
Matlock wasn't invited to the NFL Combine, but he flashed a bit of athleticism at his Boise State Pro Day (4.95 40-yard dash) on his nearly 300-pound, 6-foot-4 frame. Matlock, who turns 23 in June, likely projects as an interior depth piece at the NFL level.
