Top Chad Muma News

  • Chad Muma: Dropped by Indianapolis

Muma was cut by the Colts on Saturday.

Muma was a healthy scratch in Indianapolis' Week 8 win over the Titans, so it's no surprise that he was dropped Saturday. The Wyoming product appeared in five games for the Colts prior to being waived, recording five total tackles over 104 total snaps (71 on special teams, 32 on defense).

  • Colts' Chad Muma: Healthy scratch for opener

Muma was inactive for Sunday's win over Miami.

Muma will back up Joe Bachie and Cameron McGrone at linebacker, but he may not be active on gamedays as he looks like No. 6 on the depth chart among linebackers. Muma worked in a reserve role at Jacksonville last season, with 322 of his 563 total snaps coming on special teams.

  • Colts' Chad Muma: Claimed by Colts

Muma was claimed off waivers from the Jaguars on Wednesday, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Muma will back up Joe Bachie at linebacker. Muma worked in a reserve role at Jacksonville, with 322 of his 563 total snaps coming on special teams.

  • Jaguars' Chad Muma: Sees more defensive work in 2024

Muma recorded 32 total tackles over 17 games in 2024.

The third-year pro from Wyoming played 102 more defensive snaps in 2024 than in 2023, improving his tackle output by 17. However, Muma logged fewer passes defended (two to zero) and still primarily served as a special-teamer, with 322 of his 563 total snaps coming on special teams this season. Jacksonville's linebacker trio of Ventrell Miller (ankle), Devin Lloyd and Foyesade Oluokun were very productive in 2024, so it will likely be difficult for Muma to crack Jacksonville's starting defense in 2025. With one year remaining on his rookie deal, the 25-year-old is expected to remain one of the Jaguars' top reserve linebackers.

  • Jaguars' Chad Muma: Records eight stops Week 4

Muma registered eight tackles (three solo) Sunday in a loss to the Texans.

Muma got the opportunity to start with both Devin Lloyd (knee) and Foyesade Oluokun (foot) missing the contest. Muma was on the field for all but four of Jacksonville's defensive snaps and finished tied for second on the team in stops. Oluokun is on IR and Lloyd isn't certain to return Week 5 against the Colts, so Muma could be in for another big workload this Sunday.

  • Jaguars' Chad Muma: Sees increased snaps in Week 3

Muma finished Monday's 47-10 loss to Buffalo with seven tackles (two solo).

Muma's seven tackles Monday were his most since Week 4 against the Falcons in 2023. The 2022 third-round pick played a season-high 27 snaps on defense after Foye Oluokun was forced out of Monday's loss due to a foot injury. With Oluokun considered week-to-week due to his injury, Muma should see increased reps for Week 4 against the Texans on Sunday.

  • Jaguars' Chad Muma: Increased role ahead

Muma should start in place of Devin Lloyd while he recovers from thumb surgery, beginning Sunday against the Falcons, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.

Muma should have at least two starts in his future with Lloyd not making the team's trip to London. The former stepped in Sunday after Lloyd suffered the injury and also has two starts under his belt from the 2022 season.

  • Jaguars' Chad Muma: Six stops Week 17

Muma recorded six tackles (four solo) during Sunday's 31-3 victory versus the Texans.

Muma tied cornerback Gregory Junior and outside linebacker Josh Allen for the Jaguars' second-most tackles Week 17. The rookie inside linebacker also played 39 percent of the team's defensive snaps, marking his most significant usage since returning from an ankle injury that kept him sidelined Week 14. However, this was likely due to Jacksonville pulling its key starters early in this wire-to-wire blowout. Muma also logged one tackle while playing 18 snaps on special teams, and he'll likely continue to play a rotational role on defense while primarily serving as a core special-teamer Week 18 against the Titans.
