Top Jaret Patterson News

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Returns to practice squad

Patterson reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.

Patterson was elevated to the active roster for the third week in a row, officially logging a one-yard carry while playing four snaps on offense, but he did have another carry negated by a holding call. The running back operated as the No. 2 option behind Kimani Vidal, but Vidal far outpaced him with 68 offensive snaps. Patterson now has exhausted all of his elevations, and the team will have to sign him to the active roster in order for him to play again this season.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Elevated for Week 10

The Chargers elevated Patterson from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Patterson will be elevated to the Chargers' active roster for a third consecutive week, and he is expected to serve as the primary backup to Kimani Vidal on Sunday. Patterson has turned 20 carries into 74 yards in two regular-season games, though Vidal will be the top pass-catching back, as the former has not recorded a target this season.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Moves back to practice squad

Patterson reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Patterson was elevated for Sunday's Week 9 win over Tennessee and worked as Los Angeles' No. 2 running back (behind Kimani Vidal), logging 18 of 65 offensive snaps. Patterson ended up out-producing Vidal despite the relatively small snap share, tallying 44 yards on nine carries (to Vidal's 30 yards on 12 rushes). Patterson's presence became a necessity with all of Omarion Hampton (ankle), Hassan Haskins (hamstring) and Najee Harris (Achilles) on IR. Vidal currently is the only healthy running back on the Chargers' 53-man roster, so it would be surprising if Patterson isn't elevated again (or signed to the active roster) ahead of Sunday's Week 10 matchup against Pittsburgh.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Excels in complementary role Sunday

Patterson carried nine times for 44 yards in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Titans.

Kimani Vidal (12 carries for 30 yards, no receptions on one target) drew the start and led the backfield with a 72 percent snap share, but Patterson outproduced him on the ground, despite playing just 18 of the Chargers' 65 offensive snaps (28 percent). The Chargers are still likely to prioritize Vidal as their top passing-down back, but the delineation of the workload on the ground between the two players could become more even moving forward in light of Patterson's strong showing in Week 9. Patterson will revert to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, but he's a strong bet to be elevated or signed to the 53-man roster in advance of next Sunday's game against the Steelers.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Elevated for second straight week

Patterson was elevated from the Chargers' practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Patterson will be elevated to the active roster for the second straight week as the Chargers have an injury-riddled running back room. He had 11 rushing attempts in a blowout win over the Vikings in Week 8 and could be the primary change-of-pace back to Kimani Vidal in Week 9.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Back to practice squad

Patterson reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Patterson was signed to the Chargers' practice squad Oct. 14 and joined fellow running back Nyheim Hines as gameday elevations for Thursday's game against the Vikings due to Hassan Haskins (hamstring) being inactive. Patterson ended up playing 15 snaps on offense and turned 11 carries into 30 yards, with six of those carries coming in the fourth quarter with the Chargers holding a commanding lead. Hines has already been elevated by the Chargers from the practice squad for the maximum three times, so Patterson would be a candidate to be promoted to the active roster for Week 9 against the Titans on Sunday, Nov. 2.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Elevated for banged-up Chargers

Patterson was elevated from the practice squad ahead of Thursday's game against the Vikings.

Patterson and Nyheim Hines have both been elevated, giving the Chargers a pair of healthy alternatives to Kimani Vidal, who is the only available option currently on the 53-man roster. Patterson has rushed 85 times for 344 yards and two touchdowns in 21 regular-season NFL games. He played for Washington in 2021 and 2022 before appearing in one game with the Chargers in 2024.

  • Jaret Patterson: Signs with Los Angeles

The Chargers signed Patterson to the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Los Angeles now has three running backs on the practice squad, as Patterson joins Nyheim Hines and Amar Johnson behind Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins on the 53-man roster. Patterson profiles as an early-down, between-the-tackles ball carrier and could get a look on the game day roster after Haskins has amassed just 27 scoreless yards on 11 carries this season.

  • Jaret Patterson: Let go with injury settlement

The Chargers waived Patterson (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Tuesday.

The nature and severity of Patterson's injury isn't clear, but the settlement will allow him to sign with a team once he is fully healthy. The only preseason action he saw was the Hall of Fame Game against the Lions on July 31, when he turned three carries into two yards while adding two catches on as many targets for 18 yards.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Staying with Bolts

Patterson signed a reserve/future contract with the Chargers on Monday.

Patterson was unsuccessful in making the Chargers' 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but he signed with their practice squad Sept. 2. He was elevated for the Chargers' wild-card game against the Texans on Saturday, but he ended up being inactive for the contest. The 25-year-old running back will stay with the Bolts during OTAs, minicamp and training camp in an effort to earn a spot on the 53-man roster for the 2025 campaign.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Inactive for wild-card contest

Patterson (coach's decision) is inactive for Saturday's wild-card game versus Houston.

Patterson was elevated from the practice squad Friday, but he isn't going to suit up. J.K. Dobbins (ankle) entered Saturday deemed questionable to take the field, but he's been cleared to play, as has Gus Edwards, who dealt with an ankle injury of his own during practice this week. Hassan Haskins will join Dobbins and Edwards in the Chargers' backfield, while Kimani Vidal joins Patterson as a healthy inactive.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Joins active roster

The Chargers elevated Patterson to their active roster Friday.

The Buffalo product has spent most of his 2024 campaign with the Chargers' practice squad after failing to make the active roster in late August. Patterson has appeared in one game for the Chargers this season, recording no stats while playing just one special-teams snap. His elevation ensures depth at running back for Saturday's wild-card matchup against the Texans, with J.K. Dobbins (ankle) listed as questionable.

  • Jaret Patterson: Lands back on practice squad

The Chargers reverted Patterson to their practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Patterson got his first elevation of the campaign for Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs and played one snap on special teams. That was his first regular-season action since he suited up in three contests for the Commanders in 2022. With J.K. Dobbins (knee) on IR for at least two more games, Patterson could get additional elevations, though it's unlikely he'll see much action on offense.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Elevated by Bolts for Week 14

The Chargers elevated Patterson from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Patterson signed with the Chargers' practice squad in early September after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp. It's his first elevation of the 2024 campaign, though he'll likely be restricted to a special teams role, if he plays, as the Chargers already have Gus Edwards, Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins in the backfield. Patterson last saw NFL regular-season action in 2022 with the Commanders, and across three games he turned 17 carries into 78 yards.

  • Jaret Patterson: Joins Chargers' practice squad

Patterson signed with the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Patterson was let go by the Bolts in late August after failing to make the team's initial 53-man roster, but he's now found a spot on the practice squad. The 24-year-old running back's last regular-season action came in 2022 with the Commanders, when he appeared in three games and recorded 78 rushing yards on 17 attempts.

  • Jaret Patterson: Waived by Bolts

The Chargers waived Patterson on Thursday.

Patterson made the Chargers' initial 53-man roster, but he was subsequently cut after the team claimed fellow RB Hassan Haskins on waivers. Also in the Los Angeles backfield mix ahead of Week 1 are Gus Edwards, J.K. Dobbins and rookie Kimani Vidal.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: First RB with touch Saturday

Patterson had four carries for 10 yards while catching all five of his targets for 28 yards in Saturday's 13-9 preseason loss to the Rams.

Patterson was the first back deployed by the Chargers sans J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards while the projected top duo continues to sit until the regular season. Rookie Kimani Vidal (11-49-0) had a strong showing Saturday as both young backs continue to battle for spots and roles behind the aforementioned veteran transplants from Baltimore. Expect Patterson to see more work in the Chargers' final preseason tilt against the Cowboys next Saturday.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Pushing for No. 3 job

Patterson is believed to be the leading candidate for the Chargers' No. 3 running back job, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

According to Popper, Patterson has gotten the most reps with the first-team offense behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards while notably running ahead of Kimani Vidal, Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson. Patterson was also the first running back to get into the Chargers' first preseason game this past Saturday against the Seahawks, finishing with seven carries for 38 yards. Patterson spent most of the 2023 season on Los Angeles' practice squad before a short stint back in Washington. He has 85 career carries for 344 yards and two touchdowns, with each of his 20 career appearances coming in a Washington uniform.

  • Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Tallies 42 yards in preseason loss

Patterson carried the ball seven times for 38 yards and also caught one of his two targets for four yards in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks.

Patterson started the game at running back due to Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins both being healthy inactives and continued to see time until early in the third quarter. Los Angeles' offense as a whole struggled to move the ball, especially in the first 30 minutes of the game, as Patterson's long of 16 yards came near the end of the first half with Seattle playing a prevent defense of sorts, content to let the Chargers effectively run out the clock. Neither Elijah Dotson (three carries, seven yards) nor Isaiah Spiller (five carries, five yards) did much with their limited opportunities on the ground, and it's worth noting intriguing rookie Kimani Vidal also was held out of the exhibition, which appeared to be a coach's decision.
