Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Returns to practice squad
Patterson reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Patterson was elevated to the active roster for the third week in a row, officially logging a one-yard carry while playing four snaps on offense, but he did have another carry negated by a holding call. The running back operated as the No. 2 option behind Kimani Vidal, but Vidal far outpaced him with 68 offensive snaps. Patterson now has exhausted all of his elevations, and the team will have to sign him to the active roster in order for him to play again this season.

The Chargers elevated Patterson from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Patterson will be elevated to the Chargers' active roster for a third consecutive week, and he is expected to serve as the primary backup to Kimani Vidal on Sunday. Patterson has turned 20 carries into 74 yards in two regular-season games, though Vidal will be the top pass-catching back, as the former has not recorded a target this season.

Patterson reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Patterson was elevated for Sunday's Week 9 win over Tennessee and worked as Los Angeles' No. 2 running back (behind Kimani Vidal), logging 18 of 65 offensive snaps. Patterson ended up out-producing Vidal despite the relatively small snap share, tallying 44 yards on nine carries (to Vidal's 30 yards on 12 rushes). Patterson's presence became a necessity with all of Omarion Hampton (ankle), Hassan Haskins (hamstring) and Najee Harris (Achilles) on IR. Vidal currently is the only healthy running back on the Chargers' 53-man roster, so it would be surprising if Patterson isn't elevated again (or signed to the active roster) ahead of Sunday's Week 10 matchup against Pittsburgh.

Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Excels in complementary role Sunday
Patterson carried nine times for 44 yards in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Titans.
Kimani Vidal (12 carries for 30 yards, no receptions on one target) drew the start and led the backfield with a 72 percent snap share, but Patterson outproduced him on the ground, despite playing just 18 of the Chargers' 65 offensive snaps (28 percent). The Chargers are still likely to prioritize Vidal as their top passing-down back, but the delineation of the workload on the ground between the two players could become more even moving forward in light of Patterson's strong showing in Week 9. Patterson will revert to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, but he's a strong bet to be elevated or signed to the 53-man roster in advance of next Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Patterson was signed to the Chargers' practice squad Oct. 14 and joined fellow running back Nyheim Hines as gameday elevations for Thursday's game against the Vikings due to Hassan Haskins (hamstring) being inactive. Patterson ended up playing 15 snaps on offense and turned 11 carries into 30 yards, with six of those carries coming in the fourth quarter with the Chargers holding a commanding lead. Hines has already been elevated by the Chargers from the practice squad for the maximum three times, so Patterson would be a candidate to be promoted to the active roster for Week 9 against the Titans on Sunday, Nov. 2.

The Chargers signed Patterson to the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Los Angeles now has three running backs on the practice squad, as Patterson joins Nyheim Hines and Amar Johnson behind Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins on the 53-man roster. Patterson profiles as an early-down, between-the-tackles ball carrier and could get a look on the game day roster after Haskins has amassed just 27 scoreless yards on 11 carries this season.

Jaret Patterson: Let go with injury settlement
The Chargers waived Patterson (undisclosed) with an injury settlement Tuesday.
The nature and severity of Patterson's injury isn't clear, but the settlement will allow him to sign with a team once he is fully healthy. The only preseason action he saw was the Hall of Fame Game against the Lions on July 31, when he turned three carries into two yards while adding two catches on as many targets for 18 yards.

Patterson was the first back deployed by the Chargers sans J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards while the projected top duo continues to sit until the regular season. Patterson is believed to be the leading candidate for the Chargers' No. 3 running back job, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
According to Popper, Patterson has gotten the most reps with the first-team offense behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards while notably running ahead of Kimani Vidal, Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson. Patterson was also the first running back to get into the Chargers' first preseason game this past Saturday against the Seahawks, finishing with seven carries for 38 yards. Chargers' Jaret Patterson: Tallies 42 yards in preseason loss
Patterson carried the ball seven times for 38 yards and also caught one of his two targets for four yards in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks.
Patterson started the game at running back due to Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins both being healthy inactives and continued to see time until early in the third quarter. Los Angeles' offense as a whole struggled to move the ball, especially in the first 30 minutes of the game, as Patterson's long of 16 yards came near the end of the first half with Seattle playing a prevent defense of sorts, content to let the Chargers effectively run out the clock. Neither Elijah Dotson (three carries, seven yards) nor Isaiah Spiller (five carries, five yards) did much with their limited opportunities on the ground, and it's worth noting intriguing rookie Kimani Vidal also was held out of the exhibition, which appeared to be a coach's decision.
