49ers' Brock Purdy: Inactive again in Week 9
Purdy (toe) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants, Briana Jeannel of the 49ers' official site reports.
The 49ers have optimism that Purdy will be able to return to action for a Week 10 matchup with the Rams, but the signal-caller's lingering turf toe injury will keep him from starting for the seventh time in eight weeks. Mac Jones will once again direct the San Francisco offense while Adrian Martinez serves as the 49ers' No. 2 quarterback. Notably, the 49ers aren't listing Purdy as their emergency No. 3 quarterback, so he won't be available even if Jones and/or Martinez are forced out of Sunday's contest due to injury.

49ers' Brock Purdy: Won't start, deemed questionable
Purdy (toe) won't start Sunday's game against the Giants but is listed as questionable to be available in a backup capacity, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Mac Jones will make another start, with Purdy potentially dressing as the 49ers' emergency No. 3 quarterback Sunday before targeting a return to the lineup Week 10 against the Rams. Purdy's status this Sunday won't affect fantasy decisions, but it'll at least be a good sign for Week 10 if he's considered healthy enough to handle the No. 3 role versus the Giants.

49ers' Brock Purdy: Limited again Thursday
Purdy (toe) was limited at Thursday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Purdy has strung together eight consecutive limited listings on 49ers injury reports as he seeks his first game action since Week 4 due to a turf toe injury. On Monday, coach Kyle Shanahan told Wagoner that he didn't think it was a "long shot" for Purdy to play Week 9, but the fourth-year signal-caller now has just one more chance to get back to full Friday before San Francisco potentially makes a ruling on his status ahead of Sunday's game at the Giants. If Purdy is sidelined again this weekend, Mac Jones would make his seventh start of the season.

49ers' Brock Purdy: Remains limited in practice
Purdy (toe) officially was limited at Wednesday's practice, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Coach Kyle Shanahan told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com earlier Wednesday that Purdy was slated to be limited in Wednesday's session, which came to pass. Meanwhile, fill-in QB Mac Jones, who emerged from Week 8 action with a bruised knee, practiced fully to begin Week 9 prep. This follows comments from Shanahan on Monday in which he didn't believe it was a "long shot" for Purdy to play Sunday at the Giants, but the 49ers would "see how he's doing Wednesday," according to Wagoner. Considering Purdy hasn't upgraded to all activity yet in practice, he again may be running behind Jones to start this weekend, but ultimately the former's listing Thursday and Friday will be watched to see if the tide turns in his favor.

49ers' Brock Purdy: In line for limited practice
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy (toe) is expected to be limited at Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
The ever-elusive full practice for Purdy has yet to occur since he aggravated a turf toe injury in his last appearance Week 4. Having said that, Shanahan told Wagoner on Monday, "I don't think it's a long shot. We'll see how he's doing Wednesday." Another capped session Wednesday would indicate Purdy still has to prove the health of his toe before being cleared to return to action, and with fill-in QB Mac Jones also dealing with a knee contusion this week, the situation under center in San Francisco remains in flux ahead of Sunday's game at the Giants.

49ers' Brock Purdy: May return in Week 9
Purdy (toe) has a chance to return to action Sunday at the Giants, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. "It's too early to say," coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday. "I don't think it's a long shot. We'll see how he's doing on Wednesday."
One week removed from Shanahan saying it was a "stretch" for Purdy to play this past Sunday in Houston, the coach was more optimistic in his phrasing, indicating that the 49ers are keeping the door open for the fourth-year pro to see his first game action since Week 4. Shanahan also told David Lombardi of SFStandard.com that fill-in QB Mac Jones emerged from Week 8 action with a knee contusion and is "day-to-day." Should the worst-case scenario come to pass and both QBs get ruled out for the road contest against the Giants, undrafted rookie Adrian Martinez might be in line to make his first NFL start.
