Top Zavier Scott News

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Five carries but fumbles in win

Scott had five carries for 18 yards but lost a fumble in Sunday's win over Cleveland in London.

Scott played on 14 of the offense's 65 snaps and was the clear No. 2 running back ahead of Cam Akers (one snap on offense). Scott's fumble could put his No. 2 running back role at risk, but it doesn't appear Akers is a significant threat. However, Scott may have just one more game as the backup if Aaron Jones (hamstring) is able to return from injured reserve Week 8.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Scores first NFL touchdown

Scott carried the ball twice for one yard and caught six of eight targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Steelers in Dublin.

The Vikings couldn't get much going on the ground and found themselves staring at a 21-6 deficit heading into the fourth quarter, so Scott saw a career-high workload as a pass catcher and capped a drive inside the final four minutes with a 16-yard TD reception, his first score in the NFL. Jordan Mason is locked into the top spot on the backfield depth chart for Minnesota as long as Aaron Jones (IR, hamstring) is sidelined, but Scott may have earned a more consistent role with this performance, beginning with a Week 5 tilt against the Browns in London.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Works in backup role

Scott had eight carries for 30 yards and one reception for 20 yards on his lone target in Sunday's win over the Bengals.

Scott played on 17 of the offense's 60 snaps as he got work in a blowout win behind starter Jordan Mason. Cam Akers played seven snaps late in the fourth quarter. While Scott's usage is encouraging, he also had a fumble (which the Vikings recovered), and the fact Akers was elevated to the active roster just a few days after being signed could be a worry. It's still possible Akers overtakes Scott for backup duties while Aaron Jones is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Cleared to play

Scott (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday night's game against the Falcons.

Scott will be making his season debut after he missed Week 1 against the Bears. With Ty Chandler (knee) placed on injured reserve earlier this week and set to miss at least the next four games, Scott is in line for RB3 duties behind Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason, though that likely won't translate to many, if any, offensive opportunities.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Limited on Thursday

Scott (ankle) was limited in Thursday's practice.

Scott missed Week 1 and was estimated as a full participant Wednesday, but with the Vikings back on the practice field Thursday, the running back's reps were limited. If healthy, Scott would be in line for RB3 duties this week after Ty Chandler (knee) was placed on injured reserve earlier in the day Thursday.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Deemed full practice participant

Scott (ankle) was estimated as a full participant in Wednesday's practice walkthrough.

Scott suffered an ankle injury in Minnesota's final preseason contest Aug. 22 and didn't play in Week 1 versus Chicago. However, he appears to be past the ankle issue given his estimation as a full participant Wednesday. If Scott is able to play Sunday against Atlanta, he'll likely be Minnesota's No. 3 RB since Ty Chandler isn't expected to play due to a knee injury.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Out for Week 1

Scott (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday night's game against the Bears.

Scott was injured in the Vikings' preseason finale back on Aug. 22 and will be unavailable for the team's Week 1 opener. He was unlikely to see much, if any, playing time to begin with behind Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason and Ty Chandler.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Still working through ankle issue

Scott (ankle) did not participate in Thursday's practice.

Scott is nursing an ankle injury that he suffered during the Vikings' preseason finale against the Titans. He'll have two more chances to return to practice and give himself a shot at playing in Monday's regular-season opener against the Bears.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Suffers ankle injury

Scott suffered an ankle injury during Friday's preseason game against the Titans.

Scott served as the starting running back for the Vikings on Friday, but none of Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason nor Ty Chandler played. He was held in check on his first few carries but ripped off a 23-yard run on the Vikings' second possession to set up a field goal. Scott looked to be wresting the third running back role away from Chandler, though both his usage and this injury cast doubt on his status heading into a Week 1 regular-season matchup against the Bears.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Productive again Saturday

Scott carried the ball 10 times for 28 yards, caught three of four targets for 44 yards and returned one kickoff for 20 yards in Saturday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Patriots.

The 26-year-old running back spent last season on the Vikings' practice squad, and Scott appears to have used his time well because he's on the cusp of taking the No. 3 spot on the depth chart away from Ty Chandler. Scott's usage as a return man might be the clearest sign yet he's moved past Chandler in the pecking order, as Chandler's special-teams role was thought to be his one clear edge in the battle. Even if he wins the job, Scott's snaps on offense will likely be very limited with Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason entrenched in the top two backfield jobs.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: May have lead for No. 3 RB role

Scott had seven carries for 40 yards and one reception for 11 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Baltimore. His performance and strong training camp so far may have moved him ahead of Ty Chandler for the No. 3 running back role, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Scott and Chandler will likely battle for the No. 3 role the rest of training camp, and the loser may not make the 53-man roster. Chandler is used on kickoff returns, which could give him a slight edge. Still, Scott continues to be trending in the right direction.

  • Vikings' Zavier Scott: Inks future deal with Vikings

The Vikings signed Scott to a reserve/future contract Wednesday, Craig Peters of the team's official site reports.

Scott signed with the Vikings' practice squad in late August after failing to make the Colts' 53-man roster at the end of training camp. He wasn't elevated for a single game during the 2024 season, but he'll be a part of Minnesota's 90-man roster when the new league year starts March 12, which will allow him to train with the Vikings' coaching staff and participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp. Scott has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game since signing with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent in May of 2023.

  • Zavier Scott: Joins Vikings' practice squad

The Vikings signed Scott to their practice squad Thursday.

Scott fell short of making the Colts' initial 53-man roster before inking a deal to join the Vikings' practice squad Thursday. The Maine product was used all over the field during his final collegiate season in 2022, rushing 39 times for 371 yards and four touchdowns while also catching 42 passes for 434 yards and an additional touchdown.

  • Zavier Scott: Let go by Indy

The Colts waived Scott on Tuesday, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Scott initially inked with Indianapolis as an UDFA last year, but he missed time with a meniscus tear before eventually landing on the team's practice squad. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he figures to be a candidate for a practice squad spot once again.

  • Colts' Zavier Scott: Signs deal with Indianapolis

Scott signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts on Monday.

Scott joined the Colts' practice squad in mid-October, failing to appear in a contest prior to the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. The wide receiver will now have a shot at making his NFL debut if he can crack the team's 53-man roster ahead of the 2024 season.

  • Zavier Scott: Joins Indy's practice squad

The Colts signed Scott to their practice squad Tuesday.

Scott was out of commission for the first stretch of the 2023 season with a torn meniscus, but he now has a chance to make an impression in Indianapolis. The undrafted rookie is still working towards a potential NFL debut.

  • Zavier Scott: Tries out for Browns

Scott (knee) had a tryout with the Browns on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

An undrafted rookie, Scott sustained a meniscus tear in early August, and the Colts eventually waived him with an injury settlement. Now that he's seemingly met the terms of said settlement, he's making the rounds with interested parties. Cleveland lost Nick Chubb to a season-ending knee injury Week 2, so the team may be looking at ways to round out its backfield options on the practice squad.
