Vikings' Zavier Scott: Suffers ankle injury
Scott suffered an ankle injury during Friday's preseason game against the Titans.
Scott served as the starting running back for the Vikings on Friday, but none of Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason nor Ty Chandler played. He was held in check on his first few carries but ripped off a 23-yard run on the Vikings' second possession to set up a field goal. Scott looked to be wresting the third running back role away from Chandler, though both his usage and this injury cast doubt on his status heading into a Week 1 regular-season matchup against the Bears.

Vikings' Zavier Scott: Productive again Saturday
Scott carried the ball 10 times for 28 yards, caught three of four targets for 44 yards and returned one kickoff for 20 yards in Saturday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Patriots.
The 26-year-old running back spent last season on the Vikings' practice squad, and Scott appears to have used his time well because he's on the cusp of taking the No. 3 spot on the depth chart away from Ty Chandler. Scott's usage as a return man might be the clearest sign yet he's moved past Chandler in the pecking order, as Chandler's special-teams role was thought to be his one clear edge in the battle. Even if he wins the job, Scott's snaps on offense will likely be very limited with Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason entrenched in the top two backfield jobs.

Vikings' Zavier Scott: May have lead for No. 3 RB role
Scott had seven carries for 40 yards and one reception for 11 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Baltimore. His performance and strong training camp so far may have moved him ahead of Ty Chandler for the No. 3 running back role, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Scott and Chandler will likely battle for the No. 3 role the rest of training camp, and the loser may not make the 53-man roster. Chandler is used on kickoff returns, which could give him a slight edge. Still, Scott continues to be trending in the right direction.

Vikings' Zavier Scott: Inks future deal with Vikings
The Vikings signed Scott to a reserve/future contract Wednesday, Craig Peters of the team's official site reports.
Scott signed with the Vikings' practice squad in late August after failing to make the Colts' 53-man roster at the end of training camp. He wasn't elevated for a single game during the 2024 season, but he'll be a part of Minnesota's 90-man roster when the new league year starts March 12, which will allow him to train with the Vikings' coaching staff and participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp. Scott has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game since signing with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent in May of 2023.

Scott fell short of making the Colts' initial 53-man roster before inking a deal to join the Vikings' practice squad Thursday. The Maine product was used all over the field during his final collegiate season in 2022, rushing 39 times for 371 yards and four touchdowns while also catching 42 passes for 434 yards and an additional touchdown.

Scott initially inked with Indianapolis as an UDFA last year, but he missed time with a meniscus tear before eventually landing on the team's practice squad. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he figures to be a candidate for a practice squad spot once again.

Scott signed a reserve/future contract with the Colts on Monday.
Scott joined the Colts' practice squad in mid-October, failing to appear in a contest prior to the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. The wide receiver will now have a shot at making his NFL debut if he can crack the team's 53-man roster ahead of the 2024 season.

An undrafted rookie, Scott sustained a meniscus tear in early August, and the Colts eventually waived him with an injury settlement. Now that he's seemingly met the terms of said settlement, he's making the rounds with interested parties. Cleveland lost Nick Chubb to a season-ending knee injury Week 2, so the team may be looking at ways to round out its backfield options on the practice squad.

Scott was waived with an injury settlement Monday after suffering a meniscus tear in his knee, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Given that Scott agreed to an injury settlement instead of being waived/injured and reverting to injured reserve, he will be eligible to re-sign with the Colts once he gets healthy. The Maine product recorded 371 rushing yards and four touchdowns to go along with 434 receiving yards on 42 receptions during his final collegiate season.

The Colts waived Scott (quadriceps) with an injury settlement Monday.
Scott was competing for a depth running back role with Indianapolis before suffering a quadriceps injury. Now that both he and the team have reached an injury settlement, he will be able to look for a new opportunity once his health is back up to par. The undrafted free agent tallied 434 yards through the air on 42 receptions to go along with 371 rushing yards and four touchdowns during his final collegiate year at Maine.

Scott would be in line to get some work in Saturday's preseason game if healthy with Jonathan Taylor (ankle), Zack Moss (ankle) and Deon Jackson (quad) all hurt. Scott appeared in 11 games with Maine last season, recording 42 catches for 434 yards and one touchdown while also turning 39 carries into 371 yards and four scores on the ground. The versatile athlete will compete for a final running back spot but is more likely to land on the practice squad.
