Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Won't return Week 5
Cosmi (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
Cosmi's 21-day practice window to return from the Commanders' reserve/PUP list opened Wednesday. He was a full participant in each of the first two practices of the week, but the 2021 second-rounder did not travel with the team to Los Angeles and will not play Sunday. Cosmi will have to wait until Week 6 against the Bears on Monday, Oct. 13 for the next opportunity to make his 2025 regular-season debut.

Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Designated to return
Cosmi (knee) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 2021 second-round pick from Texas missed the Commanders' first four games this season after tearing his ACL in January. Cosmi now has 21 days to be added to Washington's active roster before reverting to IR. He's expected to reclaim the team's top right guard spot once healthy.

Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Coach not closing door on Week 1
Head coach Dan Quinn said Monday that a Week 1 return is "still on the table" for Cosmi (knee), John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Quinn added that Cosmi has hit all the benchmarks thus far in the guard's recovery process from a torn ACL suffered in the NFC divisional round in January. While Cosmi being ready for the start of the regular season hasn't been ruled out as a possibility, that would constitute a much faster than usual return from such an injury, so it's more likely that Cosmi will need additional time to recover. Cosmi is currently on the active/PUP list.

Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Placed on PUP list
Cosmi (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Commanders on Wednesday.
Cosmi is continuing to work his way back from a torn ACL in his right knee, which he suffered in Washington's divisional-round win over the Lions in the playoffs last year. The offensive lineman is eligible to return to practice and play at any point in the preseason.

Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Set for MRI
Cosmi will undergo an MRI on Sunday and is expected to miss at least one game after exiting with a right knee injury during Saturday's 45-31 win over the Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Cosmi suffered what appeared to be a significant injury when he got his leg rolled up on during the second quarter. Rapoport adds that the 25-year-old offensive lineman will likely be sidelined for an extended period, effectively knocking him out for next Sunday's NFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 9, should the Commanders advance. As a result, backup Trent Scott will likely start at right guard for the remainder of Washington's playoff run.

Commanders' Sam Cosmi: Out with torn ACL
Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Sunday that Cosmi will miss the remainder of the playoffs after he sustained a torn ACL during Saturday's divisional-round win against the Lions, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Cosmi was rolled up on and bent back awkwardly during the first half Saturday, and he underwent an MRI on Sunday morning. The standout guard will now likely undergo surgery to repair the torn ACL in his right knee, which could impact his availability for the start of the 2025 regular season. Expect backup Trent Scott to start at right guard during next Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the winner of the divisional-round matchup versus the Eagles and the Rams.

Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Inks extension with Washington
The Commanders signed Cosmi to a four-year, $74 million extension Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
At $18.5 million annually, Cosmi becomes the fifth-highest paid guard in the NFL, with more than $45 million in guaranteed money. Cosmi appeared in all 17 of the Commanders' regular-season contests in 2023, giving up just one sack while making the switch from tackle to guard. He's expected to continue anchoring the right side of Washington's offensive line for years to come after his extension.

Commanders' Samuel Cosmi: Full participant Wednesday
Cosmi (ankle) was a full participant during Wednesday's practice, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.
Cosmi was forced to leave the Commanders' Week 13 matchup against the Giants due to an ankle injury, but it appears the team's Week 14 bye was beneficial, as he's logged a full practice Wednesday and is on track to suit up for Sunday's rematch against the Giants. He was filling in at right guard for Trai Turner (ankle), who returned to practice as a limited participant Wednesday, so Cosmi may revert to his usual reserve role for Week 15.
