Penning (toe) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest against the 49ers, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Penning missed the Saints' Week 1 loss to the Cardinals due to a toe injury and remained sidelined throughout practice this week, so it's no surprise he'll miss his second consecutive game Sunday. Expect Dillon Radunz to continue serving as New Orleans' top left guard until Penning returns to the field.

Penning is expected to miss just a few weeks with the foot injury he sustained during Sunday's preseason game against the Chargers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
There was fear Penning suffered a severe injury when he was carted to the locker room Sunday, but the issue is ultimately one he should be able to work through relatively quickly. He had been displaying encouraging signs since being moved inside to guard, and he's still very much in the running for the starting job at left guard come Week 1 of the regular season.

Penning played 20 offensive snaps against Los Angeles, and saw all of his action at left guard, prior to leaving with the injury. Selected 19th overall in the 2022 Draft, Penning is competing with Dillon Radunz for the starting job at left guard with the Saints.
