Leake was waived by the Lions on Monday.
Leake spent last season on Washington's practice squad, and he'll hope to earn a practice squad role somewhere again in 2021, as the 23-year-old running back is unlikely to make a roster at this point.

Leake signed with the Lions on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old spent most of the 2020 campaign on Washington's practice squad, and he's a long shot to make the Lions' 53-man roster in 2021.

An undrafted rookie out of Maryland, Leake generated 736 yards and eight touchdowns on 102 carries (7.2 yards per carry) and caught nine passes for 55 yards in his final collegiate season. Javon Leake: Links up with practice squad
Leake signed with Washington's practice squad Thursday.
The Maryland product had his most recent opportunity with the Giants in training camp, but he ultimately did not show enough to carve out a spot on the team's 53-man roster or practice squad. Now provided with an opportunity for divisional rival Washington, Leake stands as a developmental RB option while Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic and Peyton Barber split positional duties on the active roster.

Javon Leake: Waived Saturday
Leake was waived by the Giants on Saturday.
It's a bit surprising considering some thought Leake was on the verge of securing a spot on the 53-man roster. An expanded practice squad almost assures Leake will at least be on the Giants in some capacity should he make it through waivers.
