49ers' Patrick Taylor: Will get surgery on shoulder
Taylor will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a fracture in his shoulder, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Taylor suffered the injury during the 49ers' preseason game against the Raiders. He was already slated to miss the entire 2025 season after being placed on injured reserve, and the 27-year-old running back will aim to return for the 2026 campaign once he's fully recovered from the procedure.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Placed on IR
The 49ers placed Taylor (shoulder) on injured reserve Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Taylor suffered a dislocated shoulder in last Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders, and he'll now miss the 2025 season unless San Francisco cuts Taylor with an injury settlement at a later date.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Suffers dislocated shoulder
Taylor suffered a dislocated shoulder in Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
San Francisco's backfield is injured and ailing after Saturday, as both Taylor and Corey Kiner (ankle) suffered multi-week injuries to join Isaac Guerendo (shoulder), Jordan James (finger) and Ameer Abdullah (ribs, IR) on the shelf. Prior to leaving Saturday, Taylor rushed four times for minus-six yards.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Won't return vs. Las Vegas
Taylor (shoulder) has been ruled out for the rest of Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Taylor suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter and will leave Saturday's game with four carries for minus-six yards. He'll undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, leaving his status for the 49ers' preseason finale against the Raiders on Saturday, Aug. 23 up in the air. With Taylor and Corey Kiner (leg) both suffering injuries, Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Jeff Wilson will handle backfield duties for the 49ers for the rest of Saturday's exhibition contest against Las Vegas.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Exits game with shoulder injury
Taylor is questionable to return to Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders due to a shoulder injury, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Taylor may have picked up the injury during the 49ers' second offensive drive of the first quarter. He may be held out for the rest of the game given that it's the preseason, and if that were to be the case, he would finish with four carries for minus-six yards. Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Jeff Wilson should see a heavier workload out of the backfield if Taylor is done for the day.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Scores rushing touchdown Saturday
Taylor rushed five times for seven yards and a touchdown and secured his only target for four yards in the 49ers' 30-9 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night.
Taylor handled the 49ers' first rushing play of the night and lost three yards on that carry, but he bounced back with gains of four yards apiece on a rush attempt and his one reception over two of the following three plays before eventually adding a five-yard touchdown run to cap off the opening drive. Taylor is due to see a solid amount of work this preseason due to Isaac Guerendo (shoulder) and rookie fifth-round pick Jordan James (finger) both being sidelined, and he's likely battling fellow journeyman Ameer Abdullah, who gained 20 yards on four carries but also lost a fumble Saturday, for a reserve role come the regular season.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Extra work this preseason
Taylor should get an extended look this preseason after primary backup Isaac Guerendo (shoulder) suffered a multi-week injury in training camp.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Guerendo is expected to miss a couple of weeks after injuring his shoulder in practice this past weekend. That opens the door for Taylor and rookie Jordan James to see extended run for the 49ers in Saturday's preseason opener against the Broncos, with the team likely limiting or sitting starter Christian McCaffrey for the exhibition. The 27-year-old Taylor produced a 39-183-1 rushing line as a reserve with San Francisco last season, a role he will be competing for once again in 2025.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Staying in San Francisco
The 49ers re-signed Taylor to a one-year deal Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The 26-year-old running back will remain with the 49ers after spending most of last season on the team's active roster. He saw increased offensive action in 2024 due to injuries to Christian McCaffrey (knee), Jordan Mason (ankle) and Isaac Guerendo (knee), appearing in 13 games and taking 39 carries for 183 yards and one touchdown. Additionally, Taylor hauled in three of his 11 targets for 25 yards and accumulated 104 kick-return yards. Expect Taylor to serve as one of San Francisco's top reserve backs again in 2025.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Cracks century mark Sunday
Taylor rushed 17 times for 109 yards while catching one of four targets for 12 receiving yards in Sunday's 47-24 loss to Arizona.
Rookie starter Isaac Guerendo (knee) went down on his second carry Sunday, opening the door for Taylor to post the first 100-plus yard game of his career. The 26-year-old finished the regular season with a 39-183-1 rushing line, with most of that production coming in the blowout loss to the Cardinals. The veteran backup will now become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason after playing out his one-year deal with San Francisco.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Logs 13 snaps on offense
Taylor did not record a carry or a target while playing 13 offensive snaps (20 percent) in Monday's 40-34 loss to the Lions.
Taylor reverted to the backup role in San Francisco after rookie Isaac Guerendo returned from a one-game layoff. The 26-year-old Taylor logged 13 snaps on offense in addition to his usual eight on special teams, but it resulted in no offensive stats. With Guerendo no worse for wear after Monday's loss, Taylor figures to serve a similar reserve role in Sunday's season finale against the Cardinals.

49ers' Patrick Taylor: Struggles in first start with SF
Taylor ran the ball eight times for 24 yards while catching just one of five targets for one yard in Sunday's 29-17 loss to Miami.
Taylor was unable to replicate the "next man up" trend of success from being the 49ers' starting running back. The 26-year-old struggled to get much going on the ground, leading to quarterback Brock Purdy (26 rushing yards) finishing as the team's leading rusher. Taylor was filling in for rookie Isaac Guerendo (hamstring), whose status for Week 17 is still uncertain. The latter would be the preferred fantasy option against the Lions on Monday if healthy, but Taylor would retain deep-league value if asked to start again for San Francisco.
