  • Shaka Toney: Gets look from Cowboys

Dallas hosted Toney (undisclosed) for a workout Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Toney was signed to the Cowboys' training camp roster in early August after Sam Williams was placed on injured reserve due to a torn ACL. Toney suffered a groin injury during a preseason game, and he was waived from Dallas' IR with an injury settlement in late August. He appears to be past the issue and he'll look to catch on with a Cowboys defense in desperate need of depth at defensive line due to starters DeMarcus Lawrence (foot), Marshawn Kneeland (knee) and Micah Parsons (ankle) all dealing with injuries.

  • Shaka Toney: Let go with injury settlement

The Cowboys waived Toney (groin) with an injury settlement Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Toney was placed on injured reserve last week but will now be eligible to latch on elsewhere once healthy. He hasn't appeared in a regular-season NFL game since 2022.

  • Cowboys' Shaka Toney: Reverts to IR

Toney (groin) reverted to the Cowboys' injured reserve Thursday after going unclaimed on waivers, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The defensive end will need to reach an injury settlement with the team to have a chance to play in 2024. Toney last saw NFL action in 2022 with Washington, when he played on 50 defensive snaps and 313 special-teams snaps, recording eight tackles.

  • Shaka Toney: Waived/injured by Dallas

The Cowboys waived/injured Toney (groin) on Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Toney signed with Dallas in early August due to Sam Williams sustaining a season-ending torn ACL injury. Toney registered two tackles (one solo) across 22 snaps in Sunday's preseason game against the Rams, but at some point he injured his groin. If he clears waivers, the 2021 seventh-rounder will revert to Dallas' injured reserve, which would force him to miss the entire 2024 season unless an injury settlement is reached.

  • Cowboys' Shaka Toney: Catches on with Dallas

The Cowboys signed Toney to their 90-man training camp roster Friday, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Toney worked out with the Cowboys on Thursday in the wake of Sam Williams tearing his ACL at practice Sunday. Toney last appeared in the NFL in 2022 with the Commanders, and across 16 regular-season games he posted eight tackles (four solo) while mostly playing on special teams. The 2021 seventh-round pick out of Penn State will look to make the most of his opportunity and compete for a defensive end depth spot behind starters Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, although his biggest contribution could come on special teams.

  • Shaka Toney: Set to work out with Dallas

Toney will work out with the Cowboys on Thursday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Toney will get a shot to prove himself to the Cowboys after being let go by the Commanders in April. With Sam Williams (knee) done for the year with a torn ACL, Dallas is in need of another option on the defensive line. Toney last appeared in an NFL contest in 2022, recording eight tackles (four solo) over 16 games with Washington. He spent the entirety of the 2023 campaign at home after being suspended for the year for violating the league's policy on gambling.

The Commanders waived Toney on Monday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Toney was reinstated by the NFL this past Thursday after having served a suspension for violating the league's policy on gambling. The 2021 seventh-round pick, who last played during the 2022 season, now will look to catch on elsewhere as a depth defensive end.

  • Commanders' Shaka Toney: Reinstated from suspension

The NFL reinstated Toney from suspension Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Toney missed all of the Commanders' 2023 campaign after getting suspending for violating the NFL's gambling policy, but he's now been reinstated. Across his 26 appearances with Washington from 2021-2022, the 26-year-old defensive end recorded 16 total tackles, including 1.5 sacks. He's now expected to compete for a rotational role on the Commanders' defensive line as the offseason progresses.

  • Commanders' Shaka Toney: Suspended for 2023 season

The NFL announced Friday that Toney will be suspended indefinitely, minimum one season, for violating the league's gambling policy, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Toney as well as four Lions players were suspended Friday for violations of the NFL's gambling policy. Toney along with Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore were given season-long suspensions for betting on NFL contests while Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill were suspended six games for wagering on non-NFL games. After appearing in 16 games with Washington in 2022 as a fringe player, Toney will now have to earn a roster spot again in 2024, if reinstated.
