  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Held out of practice

Sanders (ankle) didn't participate in Thursday's practice.

Sanders opened Week 6 prep Wednesday as a limited participant, but his lack of activity Thursday doesn't inspire much early confidence that he'll be able to return from a one-game absence to play Sunday at Carolina. If Sanders isn't available for the matchup with one of his former teams, the Cowboys would likely keep rookie Jaydon Blue active for the second week in a row as starting running back Javonte Williams' top backup.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Limited in practice Wednesday

Sanders (knee/ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Sanders didn't practice at all prior to being ruled out for Dallas' win over the Jets in Week 5, so it's notable to see that he was upgraded to limited activity. If the veteran running back is able to gain clearance in time to suit up Sunday against the Panthers, he'll join Jaydon Blue as a reserve option behind No. 1 running back Javonte Williams.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Sitting out in Week 5

Sanders (knee/ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game at the Jets, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Sanders wasn't able to practice during Week 5 prep due to knee and ankle injuries, but a questionable designation left the door open for him to be available to the Cowboys offense Sunday. The proceeding didn't come to pass, though, so Dallas will roll with rookie fifth-round pick Jaydon Blue and fullback Hunter Luepke as the backfield options behind starter Javonte Williams. Sanders' next chance to suit up is Sunday, Oct. 12 in Carolina.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Status in question for Week 5

Sanders (knee/ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at the Jets, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Since exiting the Cowboys' Week 4 tie with the Packers just before halftime, Sanders was diagnosed with a right ankle injury and then didn't practice Wednesday through Friday due to listed knee and ankle issues. Despite the lack of activity this week, the team is giving him a chance to be available to the offense Sunday, which will be confirmed about 90 minutes before a 1:00 p.m. kickoff. If Sanders is inhibited or sidelined, Jaydon Blue and Hunter Luepke would be the candidates for RB reps behind starter Javonte Williams, with Malik Davis a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: No practice again Thursday

Sanders (knee/ankle) didn't practice Thursday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Sanders made an early exit from this past Sunday's tie with the Packers due to an ankle injury and so far has been listed as a non-participant on the Cowboys' Week 5 practice report due to knee and ankle issues. On Wednesday, he told Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News that he had an MRI on his right ankle, and also that he'll attempt to run by Friday, which will determine his availability for Sunday's game at the Jets. If Sanders is inhibited or sidelined this weekend, rookie fifth-round pick Jaydon Blue could make his pro debut behind workhorse RB Javonte Williams.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Doesn't practice Wednesday

Sanders (knee/ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Sanders exited this past Sunday's tie with the Packers just before halftime due to an ankle injury, but coach Brian Schottenheimer told Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News on Monday that the running back was trending toward being able to play Week 5 at the Jets. On Wednesday, Sanders himself said he had an MRI on his right ankle, and the Cowboys will have a better idea of his upcoming availability, or lack thereof, if he's able to run by Friday, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. As such, Sanders' status will be monitored as the week goes on to see if he'll be able to continue in his complementary role behind Javonte Williams on Sunday.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Injury not considered severe

Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that Sanders (ankle) is trending toward being able to play Sunday against the Jets, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Sanders left this past Sunday night's tie against the Packers in the second quarter and was unable to return. However, it sounds like he avoided a serious injury. Sanders has been operating as the change-of-pace option behind Javonte Williams in Dallas' backfield to begin the season.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Leaves SNF with ankle injury

Sanders exited Sunday night's game against the Packers with an ankle injury and is questionable to return, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Sanders was injured just before halftime after rushing two times for eight yards, while also adding two catches for 17 yards on two targets. If Sanders is unable to return, fullback Hunter Luepke would be the only other member of the backfield behind Javonte Williams.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Pads stats late in blowout loss

Sanders recorded nine carries for 41 yards in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bears. He added three receptions on three targets for 12 yards.

Sanders recorded a season-high nine carries and 12 total touches, though those numbers were inflated by his usage during garbage time. Four of his rushing attempts came on Dallas' final offensive possession, with Joe Milton under center and many of the team's reserve skill-position players earning snaps. Javonte Williams remains the team's clear lead back, with Sanders serving in a change-of-pace role.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Finds end zone Sunday

Sanders carried the ball five times for 15 yards and a touchdown and caught both his targets for four yards in Sunday's 40-37 overtime win over the Giants.

Javonte Williams had another big game as the lead back for the Cowboys, but Sanders scored his first TD of the season on a four-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. His usage in the red zone does give him some small bit of fantasy intrigue in deep formats, but as long as Williams remains healthy, Sanders' volume will be limited. Through his first two games with Dallas, he's managed 69 yards from scrimmage on 12 touches.
