Top Kristian Welch News

  • Packers' Kristian Welch: Going back to Green Bay

Welch signed with the Packers on Friday, Zach Kruse of USA Today reports.

Welch previously played for Green Bay in 2023, when he appeared in 14 regular-season games exclusively as a special-teamer. The veteran linebacker saw time in 2024 with Baltimore and Denver, again working primarily in a special-teams role. Welch will likely reprise his status as a core special-teamer with the Packers next season but could log occasional defensive snaps as a depth linebacker.

  • Ravens' Kristian Welch: Signed to Ravens' active roster

Baltimore signed Welch from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Welch will give the Ravens some depth at inside linebacker, though he's mostly operated on special teams this year. He began the 2024 regular season with the Broncos, accumulating eight tackles (four solo) across six games. Veteran safety Eddie Jackson was waived from the Ravens' 53-man roster in a corresponding move.

  • Packers' Kristian Welch: Staying in Green Bay

The Packers re-signed Welch on Thursday.

Welch began last season on the Packers' practice squad, but he became an integral part of Green Bay's special-teams unit as the year progressed. The 25-year-old linebacker appeared in 12 games in 2023, playing a total of 210 special-teams snaps and recording six total tackles. Welch is expected to compete for a similar role this offseason.

  • Ravens' Kristian Welch: Re-signs with Baltimore

The Ravens re-signed Welch on Friday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Welch was originally an unrestricted free agent and despite not receiving a tender from Baltimore, the 24-year-old will still return to the team for next season. The 2020 undrafted free agent appeared in all 17 games last season logging three tackles (three solo) while playing almost exclusively on special teams. Welch should be expected to have a similar role next season as he'll look to once again add value as a special teamer.

  • Ravens' Kristian Welch: Clears protocols, ready for action

Welch (concussion) is active for Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Welch logged a pair of limited practices before upgrading to full activity in Friday's session due to concussion protocols, and he's since been given the green light to suit up in Pittsburgh this weekend. The 24-year-old is expected to operate in his usual role as a special-teams contributor.

  • Ravens' Kristian Welch: Iffy for Sunday

Welch (concussion) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Ravens.

Welch suffered a concussion in Week 13 but was able to record back-to-back limited sessions before ending Week 14 prep as a full participant. He appears to be trending in the right direction, but if Welch is sidelined, Malik Harrison would likely step up as the top reserve linebacker behind Patrick Queen (thigh) and Roquan Smith.

  • Ravens' Kristian Welch: Leaves with injury

Welch will not return Sunday against the Broncos due to a concussion, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Welch's absence could leave the Ravens light at inside linebacker for the remainder of Sunday's game. In his absence Malik Harrison will likely see increased opportunity behind starters Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith.

  • Ravens' Kristian Welch: Officially signs with Baltimore

Welch signed a one-year contract with the Ravens on Monday, Ryan Mink of the team's official site reports.

Welch recorded 13 tackles across 16 appearances last season and mostly operated on special teams. However, the undrafted linebacker out of Iowa could see an increased role in 2022 after the departure of Chris Board this offseason.

  • Ravens' Kristian Welch: Removed from COVID-19 list

Welch was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Clifton Brown of the Ravens' official site reports.

Welch tested positive for the virus and was sidelined for the team's Week 16 loss to the Bengals. However, his return isn't expected to change much, as he's played double-digit defensive snaps just once this season.
