Chris Rowland: Released from practice squad
Rowland was released from the Titans' practice squad Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
Rowland was let go after spending almost two weeks on the practice squad, failing to crack the active roster after being signed Nov. 10. The wide receiver was replaced by Austin Mack, who was signed Tuesday. He will likely end up on another practice squad at some point.

Rowland's training camp efforts fell short of a spot on the 53-man roster, but he will have an opportunity to further prove himself to Falcons coaches in practice. Brandon Powell ended up winning the kick returner job during camp, while the Falcons will lean on Olamide Zaccheaus as both the No. 4 receiver and possibly the No. 2 returner option behind Powell. The Tennessee State standout provides depth should one of those players suffer an injury or struggle with on-field performance.

During a typical offseason, an undrafted free agent like Rowland would have the opportunity to prove himself in preseason competition. Devoid of inter-squad contests leading up to Week 1, however, Atlanta decided against signing a single undrafted rookie to the active roster. The Falcons elected to go with the experience of Brandon Powell at kick returner, but Rowland still may be presented an opportunity to develop his skill set as a member of Atlanta's 16-man practice squad.

Falcons' Chris Rowland: Competing for returner job
Rowland has been splitting reps with Brandon Powell as the Falcons look to determine a primary return man for 2020, Kelsey Conway of the team's official site reports.
Coach Dan Quinn stated in April that Powell was the favorite to serve as Atlanta's return specialist, but it appears that the 2020 undrafted free agent is giving him a run for the position. Rowland was a statistical phenom during his time at Tennessee State, as his 104 receptions last year edged out Jerry Rice's 1984 FCS record of 103. He also proved to be extremely versatile, as Rowland was the only Division I player (FBS or FCS) to record a touchdown via a kick return, punt return, reception and rush during 2019. His offensive role will in all likelihood be marginal given how top-heavy the Falcons are at wide receiver, but Rowland certainly has a chance to make Atlanta's Week 1 roster by way of special teams.

Chris Rowland: Joining Falcons
Rowland has reportedly agreed to terms with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.
Rowland will reportedly receive $80,000 guaranteed in the deal. He was named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference and offensive player of the year for FCS-level Tennessee State last season. Rowland had 104 catches for 1,437 yards and eight touchdowns, but his work in the return game (355 yards on kick returns, 166 yards on punt returns and two touchdowns) are likely his best path toward earning a roster spot.
