Gaines has been dealing with a hamstring injury since the Packers' second practice in August. The second-year safety will miss crucial time on the field as he continues to compete for a role on the field with Vernon Scott, Shawn Davis and Dallin Leavitt. The Packers are fortunate, however, that Gaines was able to walk off under his own power alongside the team doctor.

Gaines joined Green Bay in January 2021 as an undrafted out of TCU and spent last season on the team's practice squad. When healthy, the second-year safety will compete with Vernon Scott, Shawn Davis, Dallin Leavitt and Tariq Carpenter for a reserve role in the Packers' secondary.
