  • Shane Buechele: Lands on Bills' practice squad

Buffalo signed Buechele to its practice squad Wednesday, Alec White of the team's official site reports.

Buechele wasn't able to make the Bills' initial 53-man roster, but he'll remain with the club as organizational QB depth. If Josh Allen or Mitchell Trubisky were to miss time at any point, Buechele could be elevated to the active roster.

  • Shane Buechele: Released by Buffalo

Buechele was released by the Bills on Tuesday.

Buffalo parted ways with quarterbacks Mike White and Buechele, as Mitchell Trubisky will retain the backup role behind Josh Allen. The 27-year-old Buechele has yet to throw a regular-season NFL pass.

  • Bills' Shane Buechele: Set to be let go

Buechele is expected to be waived by the Bills, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Buechele will hit the open market after completing 36 of 46 passes for 380 yards and a touchdown over three preseason games with Buffalo. The quarterback will likely find another opportunity in the near future, and he could stick around with the Bills' practice squad in 2025.

  • Bills' Shane Buechele: Participating in OTAs

Buechele (neck) participated during OTAs on Tuesday.

After having to spend the entire 2024 season on Buffalo's injured reserve list due to a neck injury he suffered during the preseason, Buechele is back in shape for football activities during offseason workouts. He'll compete with Mitchell Trubisky and Mike White to be second in the Bills' quarterback pecking order behind Josh Allen in 2025.

  • Bills' Shane Buechele: Inks future deal with Buffalo

The Bills signed Buechele (neck) to a reserve/future contract Wednesday, Alec White of the team's official site reports.

Buechele spent the entire 2024 season on injured reserve due to a neck injury that he suffered during the preseason in mid-August. By signing a futures deal, Buechele will be eligible to participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp in the hopes of making the Bills' 53-man roster for the 2025 campaign.

  • Bills' Shane Buechele: Lands on injured reserve

The Bills placed Buechele (neck) on injured reserve Tuesday.

  • Bills' Shane Buechele: Sustains neck injury vs. Chicago

Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Monday that Buechele will be out for an extended amount of time after sustaining a neck injury in Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.

Buechele took over under center in the second half of Saturday's contest after Josh Allen and Mitch Trubisky handled snaps in the first half. Buechele finished the contest completing six of 10 passes for 53 yards and one interception while adding 22 rushing yards on three carries. The Bills brought in Ben DiNucci to take snaps with the second- and third-team offenses while Buechele is sidelined.

Buechele was added to the Bills' practice squad Wednesday.

He never actually suited up for a game during his stint in KC and will now look for a fresh start in Buffalo. • Shane Buechele: Does not make cut

Buechele was waived by the Chiefs on Tuesday.

Blaine Gabbert was always the likely backup to Patrick Mahomes under center, so this is a relatively unsurprising move by the Chiefs. The 25-year-old has not suited up for an NFL game during his tenure in the league, but he did spend the majority of the 2021 season on Kansas City's practice squad. It remains to be seen if he will get another opportunity there.

  • Chiefs' Shane Buechele: Signs tender with Kansas City

Buechele signed his one-year tender with the Chiefs on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Buechele was originally an exclusive rights free agent but will now remain with the Chiefs for the 2023 campaign, after spending time on both the team's practice squad and active roster a season ago. The 25-year-old should have the same role again this year, as Blaine Gabbert is expected to back up Patrick Mahomes.
