  • Carter Coughlin: Shifts to practice squad IR

Coughlin (pectoral) reverted to the Giants' practice squad and was placed on the team's practice-squad injured list Monday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Coughlin made the Giants' initial 53-man roster, but it appears he's reverted to the team's practice squad after sustaining a pectoral injury Sunday. The Minnesota product has also been added to New York's practice squad IR, meaning he'll be forced to miss at least the team's next four games. Expect Ty Summers to see more work as a rotational linebacker and on special teams while Coughlin remains sidelined.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Out for foreseeable future

Coughlin is expected to miss "months" after sustaining a pectoral injury during Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Vikings, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.

Coughlin played 10 special-teams snaps and failed to record a stat before leaving Sunday's contest with what appears to be a serious pectoral injury. The Giants are losing one of, if not their most impactful special-teams asset for the foreseeable future, and Ty Summers is expected to see more special-teams work in Coughlin's stead.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Downgraded to out

Coughlin (pectoral) has been downgraded to out after leaving Sunday's game against the Vikings, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

The backup linebacker did not record a stat before exiting. Coughlin played on eight combined defensive snaps over the past two seasons for New York, though he did play on more than 300 special-teams snaps in each campaign.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Past lower body injury

Coughlin (lower body) wasn't on the Giants' injury report Wednesday ahead of Sunday's Week 1 matchup with the Vikings.

Coughlin was dealing with a lower body injury that forced him to miss time at the beginning of August, but it now appears he's past the issue. With Coughlin back at full health, he's expected to serve as a key special-teamer for the Giants again, after posting nine total tackles on 393 special-teams snaps in 2023.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Missing practice

Coughlin (lower body) did not practice Thursday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Details of Coughlin's injury and how long he may be sidelined are unknown. Once healthy, the 2020 seventh-round selection will be competing to earn a roster spot for his potential fifth season with the Giants.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Not on injury report

Coughlin (shoulder) is absent from the Giants' injury report ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Eagles, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Coughlin started the week as a limited participant at practice before logging a full session Friday. Barring any setbacks, he will be available to provide depth at linebacker for New York.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Tending to shoulder injury

Coughlin (shoulder) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.

It's unclear when Coughlin picked up the shoulder issue, but his practicing Wednesday signals that it's likely not too serious. Regardless, he'll probably have to upgrade to a full practice Thursday or Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Full go Thursday

Coughlin (hip) was estimated as a full participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

The 26-year-old linebacker had suffered a hip injury during New York's Week 12 win over the Patriots, but it now seems as if he's had enough time to move past the issue. Coughlin has appeared in 12 games for the Giants this season, recording six total tackles and playing almost strictly on special teams (two of 286 total snaps on defense).

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Won't return against New England

Coughlin (hip) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Patriots, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: In line for big role

Coughlin might play a starting role with Micah McFadden out against the Dolphins on Sunday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Fully recovered

Coughlin (ankle) was a participant in recent OTAs, Dan Salomone on the Giants' official site reports.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Placed on injured reserve

Coughlin (ankle) was placed on IR on Monday, Michael Elsen of the Giants' official website reports.

Coughlin is believed to have picked up the injury in practice Thursday, as he sat out the rest of the week. It was announced Oct. 30 that he would not play Monday, but a timetable for his return was not known. The move to IR will keep Coughlin out for at least three weeks.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Ruled out for Monday night

Coughlin (ankle) won't play in Monday night's game against the Chiefs, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Coughlin practiced Thursday and must have picked up the injury then because he sat out the rest of the week. The Giants will therefore be without one of their depth options at linebacker in Week 8.

  • Giants' Carter Coughlin: Back to full health

Coughlin (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Coughlin was kept on the sideline Week 2 due to a hamstring injury, but he now looks ready to go. The rookie seventh-round pick looks on track to contribute on special-teams during Sunday's game against the 49ers.
