  • Justin Rohrwasser: Shown door by Patriots

Rohrwasser was waived by the Patriots on Tuesday.

The Patriots will stick with Nick Folk in the 2021 season, so Rohrwasser -- their 2020 fifth-round pick -- will leave the team before he made his NFL debut. Rohrwasser was quite good in his senior year at Marshall, connecting on 18 of 21 field-goal attempts (86 percent).

  • Patriots' Justin Rohrwasser: Staying in New England

The Patriots signed Rohrwasser to a reserve/future contract Monday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Nick Folk ended up taking over and dominating for the Patriots this year, so Rohrwasser -- a rookie fifth-round pick out of Marshall -- never moved up from the practice squad. Robert Aguayo also signed a reserve/future deal with the Patriots on Monday. Rohrwasser and Aguayo may be the main contestants for the starting kicker role in 2021 if Folk -- a 37-year-old pending free agent -- doesn't return.

  • Justin Rohrwasser: Competition moves to practice squad

The Patriots signed Rohrwasser and Nick Folk to the practice squad Sunday, Andrew Callahan of The Springfield Republican reports.

Rohrwasser and Folk were both cut Saturday after having spent training camp competing for the starting kicker gig. Now with both back with New England on the practice squad, it's likely that if one is able to impress more over the next week, he'll be activated for Sept. 13's season opener against Miami. Of course, the Patriots could always opt to bring in another kicker before Week 1.

  • Justin Rohrwasser: Patriots cut both kickers

Both Rohrwasser and Nick Folk have been let go by the Patriots, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.

Initial reports relayed that Rohrwasser was in line to be waived, which appeared to result in Folk landing the team's kicking job. However, subsequent reports revealed the Patriots' plans to trim both players off the team's initial roster. Rohrwasser is thus a practice squad candidate, while New England may either bring Folk back at some point or add a new kicker, with quite a few currently available following NFL cut-downs.

  • Justin Rohrwasser: Doesn't make the cut

Rohrwasser will be waived by the Patriots, Zack Cox of NESN.com reports.

With that, Nick Folk heads into Week 1 as the team's kicker, while Rohrwasser -- who was the first kicker selected in the 2020 NFL Draft -- could land on the team's practice squad, with Cox relaying that coach Bill Belichick suggested Friday that the Patriots remain interested in continuing to work with the fifth-rounder.

  • Patriots' Justin Rohrwasser: Could get cut

Rohrwasser's struggles in training camp may result in him being cut and veteran Nick Folk winning the Patriots' kicking competition, Mark Daniels of The Providence Journal reports.

Rohrwasser made only 55 percent of his field-goal attempts over New England's final five days of camp, which paled in comparison to Folk's 86 percent success rate over the same span. As the team looks to replace long-time kicker Stephen Gostkowski rather than immediately entrusting an inconsistent rookie in Rohrwasser, the veteran Folk may prove the preferred option. A decision on the matter is expected ahead of Saturday's 4:00 PM ET deadline to trim rosters for the regular season.

  • Patriots' Justin Rohrwasser: Starts kicking field goals

Rohrwasser (undisclosed) kicked field goals in team drills Sunday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

This is Rohrwasser's second time kicking field goals in training camp, and he hasn't done so in nearly a week because he was dealing with an injury. Although the Patriots picked him in the fifth round of April's draft, the team is bringing in Nick Folk to compete with Rohrwasser for the kicking job.
