  • Jashon Cornell: Tries out for New England

The Patriots hosted Cornell (undisclosed) for a workout Monday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Cornell was waived with an injury settlement from the Lions' IR in early September, though the nature of his issue was never revealed. However, the third-year defensive lineman now appears to be healthy again after going through a workout with the Patriots. Cornell could serve a deep reserve role for New England while nose tackle Christian Barmore (knee) sits out on IR until at least Week 15.

  • Jashon Cornell: Reaches injury settlement

The Lions waived Cornell (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

It's not yet clear what injury Cornell is dealing with. However, he'll be eligible to play in 2022 after reaching a settlement with the Lions.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Shifts to injured reserve

Cornell (undisclosed) reverted to the Lions' injured reserve list Wednesday, Jeff Risdon of USA Today reports.

Barring an injury settlement, Cornell will be sidelined for the entire 2022 campaign. The 2020 seventh-round pick has appeared in only one regular-season game.

  • Jashon Cornell: Hits waiver wire

Cornell (undisclosed) was waived by the Lions with an injury designation Tuesday.

Cornell will likely go unclaimed and revert to IR once he clears waivers. The 25-year-old was praised by defensive line coach Todd Walsh earlier in the offseason, so the Lions may be happy to keep him on IR and give him an opportunity next season.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Talked up by position coach

Lions defensive line coach Todd Wash labeled Cornell as a breakout candidate in 2022, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "Jashon is a guy that's under the radar right now. I thought he had a really good spring and I look forward to seeing what he can being healthy again," Wash said.

Cornell has only logged four defensive snaps through two seasons, but the 2020 seventh-round draft pick has missed significant amounts of time due to an Achilles tear, a suspension and a stint on the non-football illness list. However, he appears to have had a productive offseason that included reps with the first-team defense, per Chris Burke of The Athletic. While there doesn't seem to be a path for Cornell to become a starter in the base defense when Week 1 rolls around, he could see added responsibilities early on in the year if Romeo Okwara (Achilles) or Joshua Paschal (lower body) are slow to return to the field.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Returns to active roster

Cornell was activated from the reserve/non-football illness list Tuesday.

Cornell has had a rough start to his NFL career after being selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. First missing time with an Achilles injury, then dealing with a three-game suspension and ultimately ending up on the NFI-list due to an illness. Now healthy, Cornell will look to contribute on the Lions' defensive line, starting Sunday against the Seahawks.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Returns to practice Wednesday

Cornell (illness) managed to return to practice Wednesday.

Cornell returned to practice this week, although he is still on the Lions' Reserve/Non-Football illness list. The defensive tackle has been dealt a number of setbacks so far this season including a suspension and this illness. Expect Kevin Strong to continue to be the main fill-in behind Michael Brockers until Cornell is fully healthy.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: May miss time

The Lions placed Cornell (illness) on their reserve/non-football illness list Wednesday.

Cornell's status for Week 10 is uncertain. The defensive end has received limited opportunities all season, and this illness won't affect much. Expect Kevin Strong to continue to be the main fill-in behind Michael Brockers.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Back from suspension

Cornell was reinstated from the reserve/suspended list Monday, Howard Balzer of SI.com reports.

Cornell was suspended for a violation of the league's substance-abuse program during the offseason. It's unclear what his role on the roster may be upon his return, as he missed the entire 2020 season after suffering a serious Achilles' injury in training camp. Cornell has yet to play a regular-season snap in the NFL.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Suspended three games

Cornell (Achilles) has been suspended three games for a violation of the league's substance-abuse program, Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reports

On the bright side, Cornell is reportedly back to full strength and participating in Detroit's OTAs this week after missing the entire 2020 campaign with an Achilles' injury. However, the second-year Ohio State product was a long shot to make the roster even before getting suspended.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Placed on injured reserve

Cornell (Achilles) was placed on the reserve/injured list Thursday, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.

Cornell suffered a serious Achilles' injury during practice Tuesday and his season is now more than likely over. The former Ohio State Buckeye was a seventh-round selection by the Lions in April and figured to compete for a depth role along the defensive line in 2020.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Potentially serious injury

Head coach Matt Patricia said Cornell suffered a "pretty serious" Achilles injury, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The rookie seventh-round pick could be in danger of missing the 2020 season if this injury is as serious as it sounds. The Ohio State product was seeking a rotational role with the Lions after recording 4.0 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss in his senior year.

  • Lions' Jashon Cornell: Motor City bound

The Lions selected Cornell in the 2020 NFL Draft, 235th overall.

A rotational player during his time at Ohio State, Cornell finally became entrenched as a starter in 2019, getting the nod in all 14 games for the Buckeyes. He registered 4.0 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss in 2019. A former top-100 recruit, Cornell has the talent to be a developmental defensive end in the NFL.
