  • Mike Meyer: Released from practice squad

The Falcons released Meyer from their practice squad Tuesday.

Meyer was signed onto the Falcons' practice squad last week while Matt Bryant (calf) was nursing an injury. Bryant was ultimately cleared to play in Sunday's win over the Cowboys and endured no setbacks during the contest, so the Falcons will part ways with Meyer in order to open up a spot on the practice squad for quarterback Garrett Grayson.

  • Mike Meyer: Joins Atlanta's practice squad

The Falcons signed Meyer to their practice squad Wednesday.

Meyer's addition to the practice squad comes with the news that the Falcons' kicker, Matt Bryant, will be held out of practice Wednesday due to a leg injury, according to William McFadden of the team's official site reports. The Falcons will likely wait and see how Bryant progresses the next two days before determining if he'll be able to kick Sunday against the Cowboys. If the veteran is ruled out for the contest, Meyer would likely be added to the 53-man roster at some point during the weekend and handle kicking duties for the team in Week 10.

  • Mike Meyer: Let go by Falcons

Meyer was released by the Falcons on Friday, The Associated Press reports.

Meyer always faced steep odds of surviving final cuts while competing against the likes of veteran Matt Bryant. He fared well in limited action during the preseason, though, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him resurface elsewhere soon.

  • Falcons' Mike Meyer: Stays perfect in preseason loss

Meyer connected with a 28-yard attempt in Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals.

Meyer has hit all three of his field-goal attempts during the preseason, so while he's doing all he can to unseat Matt Bryant for the right to kick for the Falcons this season, the fact that the team has yet to let him attempt an extra point suggests that the veteran should hang on to the starting job. Bryant should be a top kicking option if he does, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that Meyer unseats him, so keep an eye on this position battle as cut day approaches.
