Garner has been making his way back from a torn ACL he suffered a year ago, and while he played just one snap in Saturday's contest, the fact that he was on the active roster is enough to show he is healthy again. He will use the rest of the offseason to compete for a depth role on the team.

Garner was previously waived by the Redskins in June, at which point he was still recovering from an ACL injury that sidelined him during OTAs. Garner was still dealing with his recovery from an ACL injury when he was held out of OTAs, which is likely a reason for his release. The move could also point to the idea that the 27-year-old has not progressed well enough in his rehab. Regardless, the Redskins already had five other tight ends fighting for reps on their 90-man roster and Garner only has one career appearance in a regular-season NFL game under his belt.

Garner suffered a torn ACL in August of last season, and still seems to be working his way back from that injury. The 27-year-old has played just one regular-season game in his career thus far, and faces a loaded depth chart at tight end in an attempt to secure a roster spot for 2019.

Garner received a promotion from Washington's practice squad last December after failing to make the roster out of camp, but he failed to appear in a game for the Redskins. His pursuit of a 53-man job out of camp this season just hit a major snag, and he will now have to wait until 2019 to take another shot.

The Redskins promoted Garner from the practice squad to their 53-man roster Wednesday, Stephen Czarda of the Redskins' official site reports.
Garner previously attended training camp with the Redskins before being cut in September and latching on with the team's practice squad. He'll slot in fourth on the depth chart at tight end for Washington, making it uncertain if he'll dress for the season finale Sunday against the Giants.

Manasseh Garner: Waived after surgery
Garner was waived by the Broncos on Thursday after undergoing an appendectomy on Wednesday, Mike Kils of 9News reports.
Garner was competing for a spot at the bottom of the depth chart for the Broncos, and his surgery couldn't have come at a worse time. It can take up to a month to recover from an appendectomy, which would be enough to keep the undrafted rookie out nearly all of camp and is likely the reason Denver waived him.
