Gerald Everett: Will be released
The Bears recently informed Everett that he will be released, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Signed to a two-year, $12 million contract last offseason, Everett opened the 2024 campaign in a timeshare with Cole Kmet but didn't keep the role for long. Kmet was back in his familiar role as a near-every-down player by the end of September, leaving Everett as the No. 2 tight end in an offense dominated by three-wide sets. Everett finished the season with eight catches for 36 yards on 13 targets, ending his five-year streak of seasons with more than 400 receiving yards. He'll turn 31 in June and figures to settle for a smaller contract this offseason.

Bears' Gerald Everett: Ends forgettable season
Everett played three snaps in the Bears' 24-22 win over the Packers on Sunday.
Before the season, Everett signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Bears. The signing was interesting because Chicago already had Cole Kmet on a long-term deal. Everett came into this year having posted at least 408 yards in five straight seasons. Playing with the Bears, the veteran caught eight of 13 targets for 31 yards. Unless Kmet misses time, it seems unlikely that there is a path to meaningful production as Everett enters the last year of his contract with Chicago.

Bears' Gerald Everett: One grab in loss
Everett hauled in a six-yard pass in the Bears' 34-17 loss to the Lions on Sunday.
Everett received his first target in seven games. With eight catches for 36 yards on the season, the veteran is not a reliable fantasy option.

Bears' Gerald Everett: Continues to cede snaps to Kmet
Everett went without a target while playing eight of the Bears' 53 snaps on offense in Sunday's 38-13 loss to the 49ers.
For the fourth game in a row, Everett's snap count sat in the single digits while starter Cole Kmet (49) continued to dominate the playing time at tight end. Everett's familiarity with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron from their time together in 2021 with Seattle likely played a part in Everett seeing a more sizable role earlier in the season, but with Waldron having since been fired, the 30-year-old's snaps will likely remain limited down the stretch.

Bears' Gerald Everett: One target in losing effort
Everett caught one pass for five yards in the Bears' 29-9 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
Everett has one game with more than five yards this season. Given the veteran's low-volume role in the offense, Everett has very little fantasy value at this time.

Bears' Gerald Everett: Targeted twice in defeat
Everett caught one pass for three yards in the Bears' 18-15 loss to the Commanders on Sunday.
Everett has caught six passes for 25 yards in seven games this season. Unless the tight end's role changes significantly, it will be tough for Everett to pile up strong fantasy numbers.

Bears' Gerald Everett: Best game of season
Everett caught two passes for 22 yards in the Bears' 36-10 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Everett came into this contest having caught three passes for zero yards, so his 22-yard performance may not be a sign of things to come. As the Bears' second tight end behind Cole Kmet, Everett could have a game with no catches at any time unless his role in the offense changes.

Bears' Gerald Everett: Blanked in defeat
Everett failed to corral his lone target in the Bears' 21-16 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
Through three games, Everett has caught three passes for zero yards on five targets. Unless his role significantly changes, the tight end will retain minimal fantasy value.
