49ers' Fred Warner: Done for year
Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after Sunday's 30-19 loss to the Buccaneers that Warner will undergo season-ending surgery on his right ankle, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Warner was carted off the field during the first quarter of Sunday's game. Further tests revealed that the veteran linebacker dislocated and broke his right ankle, and he will undergo surgery to repair the injuries and be sidelined for the rest of the 2025 campaign. Warner logged one tackle prior to his exit, and the 2018 third-rounder's season will end with him accumulating 51 tackles (28 solo), three pass defenses, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery over six games. The 49ers will turn to Tatum Bethune and Curtis Robinson to fill in the gap at linebacker left by Warner. Rookie third-rounder Nick Martin has been a healthy scratch for each of the first six games of the regular season, but he could be active and make his NFL debut in San Francisco's Week 7 clash against Atlanta on Sunday, Oct. 19.

49ers' Fred Warner: Ruled out vs Tampa Bay
Warner (ankle) will miss the remainder of San Francisco's matchup versus the Buccaneers on Sunday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports reports.
Warner was carted off the field in the first quarter and was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game. With there's currently no timetable for the 28-year-old's return, he could be forced to miss an extended period of time. In Warner's absence, Tatum Bethune and Curtis Robinson could be in line for increased playing time.

Warner dislocated his right ankle in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Warner suffered the injury during the first quarter and was quickly ruled out after he was carted to the locker room. He'll undergo further tests and meet with doctors to determine how much time he'll miss, but the loss of Warner is a big blow to a 49ers defense that is already without Nick Bosa (knee) for the rest of the season. Tatum Bethune and Curtis Robinson will continue to see more snaps at linebacker in Warner's absence.

Warner logged 12 tackles (seven solo) during the 49ers' 26-23 overtime win over the Rams on Thursday.
Warner played every single defensive snap for a fourth consecutive game, and he finished Thursday's contest with the second most tackles on the 49ers behind rookie fifth-round safety Marques Sigle (13). Thursday marked the third time Warner has logged double-digit tackles, and the veteran linebacker has recorded at least eight tackles in each of the first five games of the regular season. Warner logged 100 percent of defensive snaps for the third straight game and has at least eight tackles in every contest. He also forced his second fumble of the year, helping to stall a Jacksonville drive late in the third quarter.

The BYU product led the 49ers' defense in total tackles in his first game since signing a three-year, $63 million dollar extension to remain in San Francisco back in May. Warner has consistently been one of the NFL's best defenders since entering the league, recording 131 total tackles, seven passes defended, including two interceptions, and four forced fumbles across 17 games in 2024. He's expected to remain the 49ers' defensive signal-caller as the team travels to New Orleans in Week 2.
