  • Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Stuffed in preseason finale

McNichols took three carries for a loss of four yards in Saturday's 30-3 preseason loss to Baltimore.

He was the second running back to get a touch, with Chris Rodriguez starting while both Austin Ekeler and Jacory Croskey-Merritt rested. It looks like the decision for cutdown day will be whether or not to keep McNichols as the fourth running back, as Rodriguez mostly worked ahead of him this preseason and took 17 carries for 118 yards. McNichols finishes with nine carries for 24 yards, showing a glimpse of why he's mostly viewed as a passing-down back. If he ends up on Washington's roster or practice squad, any shot at fantasy value will probably depend on Ekeler missing time (which would open up the passing-down role).

  • Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Takes four touches for 13 yards

McNichols took three carries for 10 yards and one catch for three yards in Monday's preseason loss to the Bengals.

He was the third RB into the game for Washington for a second straight week behind Chris Rodriguez and Jacory Croskey-Merritt (while Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler didn't play). There's nonetheless a chance McNichols makes the Week 1 roster, as he's familiar with Kliff Kingsbury's offense and will bump up a spot on the depth chart if the Robinson trade rumors come to fruition. It does seem Rodriguez and Croskey-Merritt are more likely to take over Robinson's role, but McNichols helped fill the gap when Robinson or Ekeler was out last year.

  • Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Staying in Washington

McNichols agreed to a one-year deal with Washington on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

McNichols mostly served as the No. 3 running back for the Commanders in 2024 behind Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler, and he'll likely do the same in 2025. McNichols finished the 2024 regular season with 55 carries for 261 yards and four touchdowns while adding nine catches (on 12 targets) for 27 yards and 164 kick return yards.

  • Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Fumbles in NFCCG

McNichols finished the 2024 regular season with 55 carries for 261 yards and four touchdowns, and nine catches for 27 yards, adding five carries for nine yards and a touchdown in three playoff appearances.

McNichols got a bunch of chances to step in as Washington's No. 2 back, with Brian Robinson missing three games and Austin Ekeler five. While he mostly performed well, the enduring memory of McNichols' season for a lot of Washington fans will be be his lost fumble on a kick return during the NFC Championship Game -- a mistake that allowed the Eagles to stretch their lead from eight points to 15. The 29-year-old McNichols is scheduled for unrestricted free agency this offseason.

  • Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Three touches in Week 17

McNichols rushed once for five yards and caught two of three targets for five yards in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Falcons.

McNichols operated as the Commanders' No. 2 running back behind Brian Robinson, playing just 22 of Washington's 83 offensive snaps Sunday. The 29-year-old running back has not been involved much on the ground lately, handling just five total carries since the Week 14 bye. Based on his limited usage, McNichols should not be relied upon for fantasy when the Commanders host the Cowboys in Week 18.

  • Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Six touches in win

McNichols rushed twice for three yards and caught all four of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 36-33 win over the Eagles.

McNichols' four targets, four catches and 15 receiving yards were all season highs in each category. The fourth-year running back played 19 of the Commanders' 68 offensive snaps, behind starter Brian Robinson (43) and ahead of Chris Rodriguez (7). Despite his uptick in usage in the passing game in Week 16, McNichols does not see enough consistent usage to be a viable fantasy option. The 28-year-old will look to contribute more on offense when the Commanders host the Falcons in Week 17.
