James Sample: Time's up in Jacksonville
Sample was released by the Jaguars on Sunday, John Oehser of the team's official site reports.
Sample had been in Jacksonville since the Jaguars took him in the fourth round of the 2015 draft. However, he only appeared in four games across two seasons due to a combination of forearm and shoulder injuries. The team replaced him with fellow safety Jeron Johnson, formerly of the Chiefs, Seahawks and Redskins.

Jaguars' James Sample: Placed on IR
Sample (shoulder) has been placed on the IR by the Jaguars, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Sample was injured during the preseason with what was believed to be just a stinger, but the issue appears to be more severe than originally expected as he's been placed on injured reserve. The 24-year-old safety will look to get back to full health before trying once again to make an NFL roster.

Jaguars' James Sample: Did not practice Saturday
Sample (shoulder) did not participate in practice on Saturday.
Sample left Thursday's preseason opener against the Jets after he suffered an arm stinger. A timetable for his injury is still unknown, but any absence of time is detrimental to his chances of landing a spot on the 53-man roster.

Jaguars' James Sample: Questionable to return Thursday
Sample is questionable to return to Thursday's preseason opener against Jets due to an arm stinger, John Oehser of Jaguar.com reports.
Sample headed into Thursday's matchup competing for a roster spot. He currently projects as the third strong safety on the team's depth chart. The 24-year-old played in four games from the Jaguars in 2015, and posted eight tackles in the process.
