  • Commanders' Terry McLaurin: Won't practice Wednesday

Commanders coach Dan Quinn said McLaurin (quadriceps) won't practice Wednesday, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.

Quinn expressed optimism earlier this week about McLaurin's chances of suiting up Week 6 against the Bears on Monday Night Football, but the veteran wideout isn't yet ready to retake the practice field. McLaurin has missed back-to-back contests without practicing at all in that span. It's possible the team is simply taking a cautious approach to McLaurin's recovery and that he'll have better odds of handling on-field work as Week 6 preparation progresses. On a positive note for Washington, Quinn said Noah Brown (groin/knee) will return to practice Wednesday.

  • Commanders' Terry McLaurin: Optimism for Week 6

Coach Dan Quinn said Monday the Commanders are optimistic about McLaurin (quadriceps) having a chance to play in next Monday night's game against the Bears, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.

McLaurin has missed the Commanders' past two games and hasn't even returned to practice yet, but Quinn's optimism suggests the star wideout could be on the practice field at some point this week. With McLaurin and Noah Brown (groin/knee) missing the past two contests, Washington has leaned on Deebo Samuel as the unquestioned WR1 while cycling through Luke McCaffrey, Chris Moore, Jaylin Lane and Tay Martin behind Samuel.

  • Commanders' Terry McLaurin: Ruled out for Week 5

McLaurin (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at the Chargers.

McLaurin thus will miss a second consecutive contest due to the quad injury that he sustained Week 3 against the Raiders. On a positive note, he made his first appearance at practice Thursday since then, taking part in the team stretch, per Tashan Reed of The Washington Post. Fellow WR Noah Brown (groin/knee) also won't travel with the Commanders to Los Angeles, leaving Deebo Samuel (heel), Luke McCaffrey, Chris Moore and Jaylin Lane as the current available wide receivers on the active roster. McLaurin's next chance to return to action is Monday, Oct. 13 versus the Bears.

  • Commanders' Terry McLaurin: Remains sidelined from practice

McLaurin (quadriceps) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice.

Along with McLaurin, fellow WRs Deebo Samuel (heel) and Noah Brown (groin/knee) also were held out of drills Wednesday. On Monday, coach Dan Quinn told JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington that McLaurin and Brown were "trending in the right direction," but with the team's top three options at the position not able to practice, the state of the Commanders' receiving corps is in flux ahead of Sunday's game at the Chargers. McLaurin himself sat out Week 4 in Atlanta due to a quad issue, so it remains to be seen if his absence will extend to two contests.

  • Commanders' Terry McLaurin: Trending in right direction

Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Monday that McLaurin (quadriceps) is among injured players who are "are trending in the right direction," JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.

McLaurin sat out Week 4 and has yet to practice in any capacity since a quad injury forced him off the field early Week 3 versus the Raiders, but it sounds like the veteran wideout has a fair chance to return to action Week 5 against the Chargers. Quarterback Jayden Daniels (knee), meanwhile, seems a likely candidate to retake the field Sunday on the road against the Chargers. It will bode well for McLaurin if he's able to be listed as at least a limited participant on Wednesday's first official practice report of the week.
