Jake Luton: Joins Las Vegas' practice squad
The Raiders signed Luton (shoulder) to the practice squad Tuesday.
Luton spent the offseason with Carolina, but he was cut from IR with an injury settlement by the Panthers prior to Week 1. Now, Luton appears fully recovered from his shoulder issue and will be available to provide emergency quarterback depth for Las Vegas, with starter Aidan O'Connell (knee) looking uncertain for Week 15.

Jake Luton: Out in Carolina
The Panthers released Luton (shoulder) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Luton was set to miss all of 2024 after landing on IR with a shoulder issue, but he and the Panthers agreed to an injury settlement Thursday that allows the 28-year-old to sign elsewhere once he proves that he's past his injury. Luton's last regular-season action came in 2020 with the Jaguars, when he threw for 624 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions across three contests.

Panthers' Jake Luton: Lands on IR
The Panthers placed Luton (undisclosed) on injured reserve Monday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Luton appeared in each of the Panthers' first two preseason contests, but he's now landed on IR with an undisclosed injury. The 2020 sixth-round pick out of Oregon State was likely in line to be Carolina's fourth option at QB before sustaining this injury. Now that Luton has landed on IR, he'll be forced to miss all of 2024 unless he and the Panthers agree on an injury settlement at some point this season.

Panthers' Jake Luton: Set to sign with Carolina
The Panthers are planning to sign Luton to a contract, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Luton spent much of last season on Carolina's practice squad before being let go with an injury settlement in December. He'll rejoin the organization as quarterback depth in the preseason with Andy Dalton set to miss multiple weeks due to a quad injury. The Panthers also have undrafted rookie QB Jack Plummer on the roster in addition to starter Bryce Young, so it will be a tough task for Luton to make the 53-man roster.

It's unclear what type of issue Luton is dealing with, but he's parted ways with Carolina for the second time in the past month. The quarterback out of Oregon State hasn't taken an NFL regular-season snap since he got into three games with the Jaguars in 2020.

The Saints signed Luton off the Panthers' practice squad Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Luton will likely operate as the team's No. 2 quarterback Sunday against the Buccaneers with Jake Haener still serving a six-game suspension and Derek Carr expected to be out with a shoulder injury.
