Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Timeline for return uncertain
Dolphins special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman said Thursday that he's uncertain if Sanders (hip) is close to returning to action or if the kicker will be activated from injured reserve this season, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
After sustaining a hip injury late in the preseason, Sanders was placed on IR with a designation for return. According to Jackson, Sanders' original recovery timeline was expected to range from 4-to-5 weeks, but because he's now about six weeks removed from suffering the injury and not yet praccticing, the veteran kicker may have experienced some sort of setback along the way. The Dolphins don't appear eager to rush Sanders back to the field, especially with Riley Patterson having filled in admirably in his stead through the first six weeks of the season. One of the few bright spots for the 1-5 Dolphins, Patterson has gone 15-for-15 on extra-point attempts and 7-for-8 on field-goal tries, with his lone miss coming from 57 yards out in this past Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Chargers.

Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Likely out for Week 6
Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Wednesday that Sanders (hip) is not ready to return from injured reserve, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Although McDaniel didn't officially rule out Sanders for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, the kicker would have to be activated to the team's active roster, which seems unlikely following Wednesday's comments. Expect Riley Patterson to continue operating as Miami's top place kicker until Sanders can return from his hip issue.

Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Remaining out for Week 5
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that Sanders (hip) won't be ready to return from the injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game at Carolina, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
After opening the season on injured reserve due to a hip issue, Sanders is eligible to make his 2025 debut this week, but he hasn't yet made enough progress. Riley Patterson should continue to handle placekicking duties in Week 5.

Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Not expected to play Week 1
Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Sanders (hip) is not expected to be available for Week 1 against the Colts, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
McDaniel said the opposite over the weekend, though it's not believed to be a season-ending injury, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday that Sanders will be sidelined 4-to-5 weeks.. Without another kicker on the roster, Miami will need to add one before facing Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Coach Mike McDaniel said Saturday that Sanders (undisclosed) is expected to be fine for Miami's Week 1 game against the Colts on Sept. 7, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Sanders didn't kick for Miami in its preseason finale Saturday, though McDaniel didn't specify what is plaguing the kicker. Sanders made 37 of 41 field-goal tries, including 12 of 14 from 50-plus yards, across 17 regular-season games last season. He also converted 26 of 28 extra-point attempts.

Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Converts career-high 37 FGs in 2024
Sanders converted both of his field-goal attempts and both extra-point tries during Sunday's 32-20 loss to the Jets.
Sanders ends the 2024 campaign with a 90 percent conversion rate, having gone 37-for-41 on field-goal attempts and 26-for-28 on PATs. The veteran has two years remaining on his deal with the Dolphins. Coach Mike McDaniel's offense will work to bounce back with Tua Tagovailoa (hip) during the 2025 campaign, and better red-zone efficiency could cause Sanders' total number of field-goal opportunities to decline, but to be balanced out by an uptick in PATs. Sanders figures to be in the mix as a fantasy-relevant option at the kicker position for the foreseeable future.
