  • George Atkinson: Cut by Jets

The Jets waived Atkinson on Friday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.

This move comes as no surprise, as Atkinson was buried on the Jets' depth chart. The 25-year-old logged 16 games on the Browns' roster last season, but that was after two seasons of bouncing around on practice squads. He will presumably clear waivers and either look for a new destination or revert to the team's practice squad.

  • Jets' George Atkinson: Rushing and receiving leader Thursday

Atkinson led New York in both rushing and receiving yardage during Thursday's 15-13 preseason loss to the Redskins. He gained seven yards on 31 carries and caught his lone target for 30 yards.

Atkinson got extended run with New York battling a rash of backfield injuries, and the 25-year-old Notre Dame product made the most of his opportunities. His night would have been even more impressive if Atkinson had been able to convert either of his two attempts from inside Washington's two-yard line on the Jets' final drive.

  • Jets' George Atkinson: Bottled up in preseason opener

Atkinson rushed nine times for 12 yards, lost a fumble, and added a one-yard reception on his lone target during a 17-0 win over the Falcons in Friday's preseason opener.

Atkinson gained 10 yards on one of his carries, but he was completely bottled up otherwise. He's far from a lock to make the roster even with New York's running back corps getting hit by the injury bug, and Atkinson looks to be well below rookie sixth-rounder Trenton Cannon in the pecking order. Cannon rushed 11 times for 40 yards in this one.

  • Jets' George Atkinson: Signs with Jets

Atkinson signed a contract with the Jets on Sunday.

Atkinson's signing with the Jets comes on the heels of Elijah McGuire breaking his foot. With McGuire set to miss several weeks, Atkinson is being brought in to add some depth to the position. Look for him to compete for a role as a reserve running back and special teams player.

  • George Atkinson: Waived by Kansas City

Atkinson was waived by the Chiefs on Wednesday.

Atkinson spent most of the 2017 season on the Chiefs practice squad and was later signed to a reserve/future contract in January, but it's clear he's no longer a part of the team's long-term plans. The Notre Dame product will be free to sign elsewhere should he pass through waivers unclaimed.

  • Chiefs' George Atkinson: Signs contract with Chiefs

The Chiefs signed Atkinson to a reserve/future contract Monday, freelance NFL writer Howard Balzerreports.

Atkinson spent the preseason with the Raiders and flashed as both a runner and pass catcher in the preseason finale, rushing nine times for 60 yards and catching two passes for another 33 yards. However, he was cut prior to the season opener only to sign with the Chiefs' practice squad shortly thereafter. The Notre Dame product, who was clocked with a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at the 2014 combine, possesses explosive measurables but will likely need to impress on special teams in order to stick with Kansas City into the 2018 campaign.

  • George Atkinson: Waived by Raiders

Atkinson has missed the cut for the Raiders' 53-man roster, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Atkinson was claimed by the Raiders in July, but he couldn't make enough noise during training camp to avoid the pink slip. He will now hit the open market if unclaimed through waivers.

  • George Atkinson: Waived by Browns

Atkinson was waived by the Browns on Friday, Cleveland.com reports.

The 24-year-old failed to make much of an impact in 16 games with the team last season. He tallied 34 yards, one touchdown and one fumble on seven carries. He figured to play a role in the kick return game if he made the final roster, but he will now look for a new landing spot.

  • George Atkinson: Claimed by Raiders

Atkinson was claimed off waivers by the Raiders on Saturday, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

After being waived by the Browns earlier in the week, Atkinson will return to Oakland, where he started his career in 2014. Atkinson will have a tough hill to climb in terms of breaking camp with the team, but he was very close to landing on Oakland's 53-man roster last season. He'll likely have to be a standout special teamer in order to remain with the club.

  • Browns' George Atkinson: Re-signs with Browns

Atkinson re-signed with the Browns on Monday.

Atkinson played in all 16 games with Cleveland last season but didn't see any rushing attempts until Week 17, when he had seven carries for 34 yards and a touchdown. He'll look to continue as a special teams player in 2017 while also pushing for a larger role in the offense.

  • Browns' George Atkinson: Listed as No. 1 kick returner

Atkinson has replaced Duke Johnson as Cleveland's kick returner, according to the team's official website.

This move comes as a bit of a surprise, as Johnson never even returned a kick during Sunday's loss to the Eagles, thanks to six touchbacks by Caleb Sturgis. The Browns may, however, want a more aggressive returner who isn't afraid of taking the ball out of the end zone, and Atkinson might just be the guy to do that.
