Top Darrin Reaves News

  • Darrin Reaves: Waived by Chiefs

Reaves (sports hernia) was waived by the Chiefs with an injury settlement, Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports.

Reaves had a strong showing in training camp last season but was eventually released in early September before spending the majority of the 2016 campaign on the team's practice squad. While he signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs for the upcoming season, a sports hernia has brought his availability for training camp into question, so the Chiefs are opting to waive him with a settlement, which allows them to check out some other options in the backfield. Reaves has played in a total of just six regular-season games, all of which came in 2014 with the Panthers.

  • Chiefs' Darrin Reaves: Undergoes sports hernia surgery

Reaves underwent offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia, Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star reports.

It's unclear how Reaves suffered his sports hernia, but it isn't expected to keep him out come training camp. He faces a long shot to the roster in 2017, as he'll compete with Spencer Ware, C.J. Spiller and Charcandrick West for carries.

  • Chiefs' Darrin Reaves: Signs contract with Chiefs

Reaves signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on Monday, Terez A. Paylor of the team's official site reports.

Reaves has been in the league for three years but hasn't appeared in a game since his rookie campaign when he was with the Panthers. Instead, he's been a regular member of the Chiefs' practice squad the past two seasons. He looks to have an easier path to the active roster this time around though as Knile Davis is an unrestricted free agent and Jamaal Charles (knee) is coming off a season in which he required surgery on each of his knees.

  • Darrin Reaves: Released by Chiefs, signs with practice squad

Reaves was released by the Chiefs on Saturday and subsequently signed to the practice squad Sunday, the Kansas City Star reports.

Reaves was considered a candidate to snag the fourth running back spot for the Chiefs, but they were unable to move Knile Davis, who ended up taking that spot. Reaves will now serve on the practice squad but could find a job elsewhere as running backs start going down.

  • Chiefs' Darrin Reaves: Could make 53-man roster

Reaves carried the ball 17 times for 63 yards and a touchdown and added two catches for 11 yards in the Chiefs' preseason finale against the Packers. ESPN's Adam Teicher believes the Chiefs will keep four running backs, with either Knile Davis or Reaves taking the final spot.

Knile Davis has reportedly been on the trading block and moving him could open the final roster spot for Reaves. He could still make the roster even if Davis doesn't get moved, but it's unlikely he will gain fantasy relevance either way given trio of talented backs (Jamaal Charles, Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware) firmly ahead of the trailing pair on the depth chart.

  • Chiefs' Darrin Reaves: Likely to start Thursday

Reaves will likely get the start at running back for the Chiefs during Thursday's preseason finale against the Packers, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Reaves is expected to play a big role Thursday with Jamaal Charles (knee), Charcandrick West (elbow), and Spencer Ware likely sidelined. Knile Davis would be the only other option in the backfield during the exhibition contest, while Reaves battles for a roster spot in a crowded backfield dealing with a couple of injuries.

  • Chiefs' Darrin Reaves: Outside shot at roster spot

Reaves saw the field before Knile Davis on Saturday against the Bears, possibly suggesting he's got a shot at making the 53-man roster.

Reaves' main contributions would still likely come on special teams but injuries to other backs on the roster could thrust him into some action on Sundays if he indeed cracks the roster.
