Hamm (undisclosed) was placed on practice squad injured reserve Thursday.

Hamm hasn't played an NFL game since logging five games with the 49ers in 2016, posting two receptions on four targets for 13 yards. He spent last season unemployed, but he'll look to make a comeback with the Seahawks. However, Seattle now has seven tight ends and three of them are locks to make the 53-man roster, so Hamm is considered a long shot.

The release comes as the result of a failed physical. Hamm played in five games with the 49ers in his rookie season and tallied two receptions for 13 yards in the process. He suffered a leg injury in the team's regular-season finale, which resulted in him missing the team's offseason minicamp prior to the draft.

Hamm is presumably still recovering from the leg injury he sustained in pregame warmups during the 49ers' 2016 season finale. It isn't clear when he'll be able to take the field again, but with training camp still a long ways off, Hamm has plenty of time to recuperate.
