Chris Warren: Didn't meet fitness standards
Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson said the team let Warren go Sunday because he didn't meet Oakland's "fitness expectations," Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Warren checked in around 260 pounds in late June, up from the 247 pounds he weighed at the 2018 combine. Schrock also reported that the 23-year-old "looked bulkier on Saturday," which seemingly was the deciding factor for Oakland's decision to sign James Butler and waive Warren.

Chris Warren: Waived by Oakland
Warren was let go by the Raiders on Sunday, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Warren had such promise heading into the offseason, as general manager Mike Mayock even said he was excited to see the young running back in practice. Warren made a bid for the 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie in 2018 after he led the NFL with 292 rushing yards during the preseason, ultimately being stashed on injured reserve with a knee injury instead. In a corresponding move, the team signed fellow running back James Butler.

Raiders' Chris Warren: Approaching 260 pounds
Warren is up to around 260 pounds, Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Warren apparently has put on weight since last year's combine, where he ran a 4.69 40-yard dash while checking in at 6-foot-2, 247 pounds. His new weight likely makes him the largest halfback in the league, which could prove useful for blocking on special teams. With Josh Jacobs, Jalen Richard and Doug Martin all expected to have spots on the 53-man roster, Warren and 205-pound scatback DeAndre Washington seem to be competing for the possibility of a single job. Undrafted out of Texas last year, Warren ran for a league-high 292 yards during preseason and then spent the entire regular season on injured reserve with a knee issue. There hasn't been any report of the injury impacting his participation in Oakland's offseason program.

Raiders' Chris Warren: Getting a chance in Oakland
General manager Mike Mayock said he's excited to see Warren on the practice field this summer, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
Warren made a bid for the 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie in 2018 after leading the NFL with 292 rushing yards during the preseason. Oakland stashed him on injured reserve with a knee injury before Week 1, with the 246-pound bruiser then getting surgery for his nagging injury. Warren should be healthy for the start of the offseason program, where he'll begin building his case for a spot on the 2019 roster. If nothing else, Warren's size hints at potential for short-yardage situations and/or special teams.

The Raiders placed Warren on injured reserve due to a knee injury, Matt Schneidman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
General manager Reggie McKenzie touched on Warren's health Saturday, saying the undrafted rookie running back had been playing through a knee issue that was "wearing on him." Consequently, Warren will undergo season-ending surgery to alleviate the concern.

Raiders' Chris Warren: Leads team in rushing in third exhibition
Warren rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and caught one of two targets for seven yards in Friday's 13-6 preseason win over the Packers.
Warren remains firmly in the mix for a role in the backfield behind starter Marshawn Lynch heading into Thursday's preseason finale against Seattle, as the undrafted rookie has performed well in his initial exhibition action. Given their light preseason workloads to date, both Lynch and fellow veteran Doug Martin appear to have secured the top two spots on the depth chart, leaving Warren, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington (knee) to compete for one or two spots. Washington isn't slated to play Thursday after recently undergoing arthroscopic surgery, so there will be plenty of reps for Warren and Richard to split.

Raiders' Chris Warren: Rushes for 86 yards in preseason opener
Warren rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries in Friday's preseason win over the Lions.
Warren was the game's rushing leader by a wide margin, as DeAndre Washington finished a distant second with 38 yards of his own. Warren, who went undrafted out of the University of Texas, averaged 6.6 yards per carry in his NFL preseason debut as he continues to battle for a roster spot behind Marshawn Lynch, Doug Martin, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington. According to Pro Football Focus, Warren also averaged an impressive 3.6 yards after contact per attempt during Friday's tilt, Marcus Mosher of USA Today reports.
