  • Colton Schmidt: Let go by Bills

The Bills released Schmidt on Tuesday.

Schmidt re-signed with the Bills in October after being let go just before the season kicked off, and now he's on the open market once again. The 28-year-old punter averaged a career-low 42.3 yards per punt and was replaced on the roster by Matt Darr.

  • Bills' Colton Schmidt: Re-signs with Buffalo

Schmidt signed a one-year contract with the Bills on Wednesday, Chris Brown of the team's official site reports.

Schmidt, who was cut by the Bills in September after a four-year stint with the team, will rejoin the active roster after rookie punter Corey Bojorquez was placed on injured reserve after initially playing through a shoulder issue. Given that Schmidt's contract lapses after this season, it's still believed that the Bills view Bojorquez as their top contender for punting duties in 2019, though that could change if Schmidt fares well in the second half of the campaign.

  • Colton Schmidt: Let go by Buffalo

Schmidt was cut by the Bills, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.

Schmidt's release saves Buffalo $1.25 million against the cap. The Bills will move forward with Corey Bojorquez at punter.

  • Bills' Colton Schmidt: Signs with Bills

Schmidt signed a contract with the Bills on Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Schmidt was not tendered by the Bills but the team still managed to get a deal done with the punter prior to the start of free agency. He averaged 42.4 yards per punt last season and downed 20 punts inside the 20.

  • Colton Schmidt: Will become free agent

Schmidt did not sign a tender with the Bills and will become a free agent March 9, Mike Rodak of ESPN reports.

Schmidt spent the last three seasons in Buffalo, but was last in the NFL with 42.4 yards per punt in 2016, so it is not surprising to see the Bills let him go. He will test the market and aim for a punting job with another NFL roster.
