The Patriots released Tobin on Monday, Kevin Duffy of the Boston Herald reports.
To make room for Rex Burkhead -- who was activated off injured reserve -- the Patriots decided to cut ties with Tobin. The 28-year-old offensive tackle was signed in early November, though he failed to appear in a game for New England.

Patriots' Matt Tobin: Signs with Patriots
Tobin signed a one-year deal with the Patriots on Wednesday, Kevin Duffy of MassLive.com reports.
Tobin signed a deal with New England last March but failed to make the 53-man roster. The 28-year-old then signed with San Francisco in mid-September but was later released to make space for linebacker Reuben Foster. Tobin will now likely be the fourth tackle on the team behind Trent Brown, Marcus Cannon and LaAdrian Waddle.

Tobin signed with the 49ers at the start of the regular season, but he has been inactive for the first two games. He was released to create an open roster spot for Reuben Foster, who was activated this week after serving a two-game suspension.

Tobin was traded from the Eagles to the Seahawks in August and served as a depth offensive lineman for Seattle. The 27-year-old is likely to serve a similar role with the Patriots in 2018.

Seahawks' Matt Tobin: Heads to Seattle
The Eagles traded Tobin to the Seahawks on Monday.
The Seahawks surrendered a 2018 fifth-round pick and took back a 2018 seventh-round pick in addition to Tobin in the deal. Tobin started at right tackle and played 22 snaps for the Eagles in Thursday's preseason game against the Bills, but could be ticketed for a backup role with the Seahawks when the regular season begins.
