Chris Banjo: Announces retirement
Banjo announced his retirement via his personal Twitter account Sunday.
The undrafted defensive back out of SMU played in 10 NFL seasons with three different teams (Packers, Saints and Cardinals). Banjo mostly operated as a special-teams ace, but he did record three career interceptions and had a fumble recovery for a touchdown, which came in his final season. He's set to join the Broncos as an assistant special teams coach.

Arizona placed Banjo (illness) on injured reserve Friday.
Banjo won't play in the Cardinals' season finale due to an illness. His move to IR is simply transactional to open up a roster spot for Week 18. Banjo played primarily on special teams during the 2022 campaign, totaling 11 tackles and one fumble recovery across 13 appearances.

Cardinals' Chris Banjo: Signed to active roster
Banjo was signed to the Cardinals' active roster Monday.
Banjo was let go by Arizona at the end of August but began the season on the team's practice squad and was elevated to the active roster for each of the last three games. The 31-year-old has totaled two tackles (one solo) while playing mainly on special teams this year, and he'll serve as depth at free safety after Charles Washington (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve last week.

Banjo was released by the Cardinals on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 31-year-old played in 13 games for the Cardinals last season, recording 48 tackles and one pass defended. The veteran was likely released because he was buried on the depth chart. Banjo may be able to find a spot on another roster given that he is in his 10th year, as he could help a young secondary with his experience.
