Marcus Maye: Tries out with Bolts
The Chargers worked out Maye on Friday, Howard Balzer of USA Today reports.
Both Derwin James (ankle) and Tony Jefferson (hamstring) are banged up after Thursday's game versus the Vikings, so the Chargers are now looking to add some organizational depth at safety. Maye played 15 games with the Chargers and the Dolphins in 2024, compiling 42 tackles (19 solo) and an interception over that span.

Chargers' Marcus Maye: UFA after 42-tackle season
Maye (ankle) posted 42 tackles (19 solo) and one interception among his three passes defensed in 15 regular-season appearances split between the Dolphins and Chargers.
Maye played 11 games with Miami before being waived and subsequently claimed by the Chargers. He proceeded to get into four games with LA before suffering a season-ending ankle injury and finishing the season on IR. The veteran safety is an unrestricted free agent, so he'll first need to recover before he can sign with a team in the offseason.

Maye (ankle) was placed on IR by the Chargers on Monday.
Maye suffered an ankle injury in this past Thursday's win against the Broncos and was unable to return to the game. The veteran safety will now be out through the end of the regular season, but he could make a return if the Chargers advance far enough in the postseason. He's recorded 12 tackles (six solo) and two defended passes, including one interception, across four games after signing with Los Angeles prior to Week 13.

Maye recorded three total tackles (one solo) and an interception in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Falcons.
Maye was claimed by the Chargers on Wednesday and he was able to make a major impact in his team debut, picking off Kirk Cousins in the fourth quarter. The safety played 19 of the team's 76 defensive snaps in the contest and will likely operate in a similar role moving forward with Los Angeles.

Maye was waived by Miami on Tuesday despite appearing in all 11 regular-season games and logging 30 tackles (13 solo) and one pass defense. Maye recorded nine tackles (five solo) and one pass breakup in the Dolphins' win over the Patriots on Sunday.
Starting in place of an injured Jordan Poyer (shin), Maye played 100 percent of the defensive snaps versus New England. Maye (shoulder) signed a contract with the Dolphins on Monday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
After spending five years in New York with the Jets, Maye suited up for 12 games with the Saints over the previous two seasons. His relatively low game total was due to the fact that he dealt with a lingering shoulder injury, but his addition to Miami's roster indicates his health is back up to par. The veteran free safety will look to make an impression going forward and earn a depth role in the Fins' secondary.

Marcus Maye: Cut loose by Saints
The Saints intend to release Maye (shoulder) at the start of the new league year, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Maye has struggled with injuries for the last three seasons -- two of which came with New Orleans -- during which he's combined to play in only 23 games. The move could save the Saints up to $7.2 million in cap space. Meanwhile, Maye will likely have to settle for a short-term deal in the hopes of proving he can stay on the field.

Maye (shoulder) logged 37 tackles, including one sack, and two interceptions across seven appearances during the 2023 campaign.
Maye ended the season on IR with a shoulder injury after being hampered by issues throughout the campaign. As a result, the 30-year-old played seven or fewer games for the third time in the last six seasons. Maye is entering the final year of his three-year, $22.5 million deal with New Orleans, which could make him a cap casualty ahead of the 2024 regular season.
