  • Patriots' Stefon Diggs: Doesn't see preseason action

Diggs (knee) didn't play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Giants.

Diggs, who continues to bounce back from a torn ACL that he suffered last October, has been a regular practice participant since avoiding the active/PUP list to begin training camp, but the veteran wideout didn't see any action in either of the Patriots' three exhibition contests this month. While the signs continue to point toward Diggs being able to make a mark early on this season, until or unless the team confirms his Week 1 availability, his status will be worth monitoring ahead of New England's Sept. 7 opener against the Raiders.

  • Patriots' Stefon Diggs: Ahead of schedule in recovery

Patriots EVP of player personnel Eliot Wolf said Monday that Diggs (knee) is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from a torn ACL, Chad Graff of The Athletic reports.

Diggs has been a consistent participant in practice throughout training camp, but the Patriots haven't allowed him to suit up for either of the team's first two preseason games. However, everything out of New England this summer has been positive regarding Diggs' recovery from the knee injury he sustained in Week 8 last season. He avoided the active/PUP list to begin camp, and there's been no indication thus far that Diggs won't be available for Week 1 against the Raiders in a little less than three weeks.

  • Patriots' Stefon Diggs: Not available Saturday

Diggs (knee) wasn't in uniform for Saturday's preseason contest against the Vikings, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.

Diggs also sat out the Patriots' preseason opener against the Commanders, which means that Aug. 21 against the Giants will be the wideout's last chance to log game reps ahead of the regular season. Diggs, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL that he suffered last October, avoided the PUP list to begin training camp and has "been out here almost every day," coach Mike Vrabel noted Thursday. However, unless Diggs sees action versus New York next week, or the Patriots elect to confirm his availability for the team's opener, Diggs' status will remain worth monitoring.

  • Patriots' Stefon Diggs: DNP was coach's decision

On Monday, coach Mike Vrabel didn't offer any specifics on why Diggs (knee) sat out Friday's preseason opener against the Commanders, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.

In a game in which the Patriots played the bulk of their healthy starters, Diggs was present on the sideline but didn't suit up during warmups or on the bench. When asked if Diggs' inactivity Friday was health-related, Vrabel limited his response to "coach's decision." The veteran wideout, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL that he suffered last October, has been a full practice participant for most of the summer, though he did miss the first half of Wednesday's joint practice with Washington for unspecified reasons. On the topic of Diggs' recovery, wide receivers coach Todd Downing noted Monday, "I think where he's at in his process right now is where we want him to be," while adding, "I think he'll stay on the trajectory we expect him to be on." Though the signs continue to point toward Diggs being able to contribute early on this season, until he takes game reps, or the Patriots otherwise confirm his Week 1 status, nothing can be taken for granted.

  • Patriots' Stefon Diggs: Not in line to play Friday

Diggs (knee) wasn't spotted in uniform during warmups ahead of Friday's preseason opener against the Commanders, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald and Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site report.

The same applies to fellow WR Kendrick Bourne, who is managing a lower leg injury. While Diggs has reportedly looked sharp in training camp practices, he is bouncing back from an ACL tear he suffered Week 8 of last season, so it's not surprising that the Patriots are erring on the side of caution here. The veteran wideout's next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 16 against the Vikings.
